Mids Win Second Straight Men’s Cross Country Star Meet In Dominating Fashion
Oct. 16, 2015
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Navy men’s cross country team dominated service academy rival Army West Point with a perfect score of 15-50 on Friday in the annual Star Meet at West Point, New York. With all five of Navy’s scoring runners finishing at the same time, it was the second-straight year that Mids had at least three runners cross the finish line simultaneously.
“Unlike all of us, this never gets old,” Navy head coach Al Cantello said after earning his 36th win over Army.
Like last season’s finish with three Navy runners finishing together, Navy had its first five runners cross the finish line in a unified manner. All five of the Mids runners were separated by 0:00.89 seconds.
Junior Lucas Stalnaker (Tega Cay, S.C.) officially recorded his first Star Meet individual title with a time of 25:03.02. With the first-place finish, Stalnaker has tallied first-place in three of the four meets he has competed in 2015.
Teammates Steve Schroeder (Sr., Monticello, Ill.), Hale Bullen (Jr., Annapolis, Md.), Gabriel Collison (So., La Crescenta, Calif.) and Sam Peckham (Sr., Valencia, Calif.) followed in that order to round out the meet’s top five runners. Schroeder, Bullen, Collison and Peckham posted times of 25:03.24, 25:03.45, 25:03.63 and 25:03.91, respectively.
Navy then captured the next four spots in the race as senior Justin Maguire (Brewster, N.Y.), sophomore Cory Donley (Salina, Kan.), junior Mitchell Pratt (Temple City, Calif.) and junior Ryan McCoy (New Glarus, Wis.) crossed the tape. Maguire (25:12.54) and Donley (25:12.98) finished within 0:00.44 seconds of each other for sixth and seventh place, respectively. Pratt followed by clocking a eighth-place time of 25:24.04 and McCoy rounded out the top nine by posting a mark of 25:25.23.
Thomas Girardot was Army’s first runner across at 25:39.92, finishing 14 seconds after Navy’s ninth runner.
Navy will have an extra week to prepare for the Patriot League Championship, which is hosted by Colgate on Oct. 31.
