Legendary York cross country coach Joe Newton still going strong at 86

Keith Conning:  My brother lives in Palatine, Illinois.  I attended the Palatine Invitational a number of years ago and watched Joe Newton at work.  He had the freshmen handle the varsity sweats, while they ran.  Sort of like the tradition at UC Berkeley, to have the freshmen put more wood on the bonfire at the Greek Theater before the Big Game.
I'm 74 years-old and I still announce cross country and track meets.  I hope to continue until I can't do it anymore.  I ran my first cross country meet in Golden Gate Park for Lincoln High School of San Francisco in 1956.
