Hall Withdraws Due to Injury from 2013 ING New York City Marathon

NEW YORK CITY - The 2013
ING New York City Marathon men's professional field will lose previously announced U.S. Olympian Ryan Hall due to a hip injury, it was announced by New York Road Runners officials.

"In my zealous efforts to have redemption in this year's ING New York City Marathon, I overstepped the first and most important rule-making it to the line healthy," said Hall. "A long string of very aggressive training has aggravated my hip and it has not been able to fully calm down, such that I don't think racing on it is wise. I am very disappointed that I won't be lining up on November 3rd as I had so looked forward to, but I am refocusing now on getting back to 100% and going after some big goals in 2014. Redemption will have to wait, but it will be all the more sweet."

The U.S. men's field features Hall's 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon teammate Meb Keflezighi. Other top Americans include two-time fourth-place Boston Marathon finisher Jason
Hartmann, last year's eighth-ranked U.S. marathoner
Ryan Vail, and 2013 World Championships team member
Jeffrey Eggleston.

Road Runners Club Of American Announces 2013 Roads Scholar® Class

ARLINGTON, Va. - Since 1996,
the Road Runners Club of America has awarded grants totaling over $450,000 through the Roads Scholar® program. The goal of the program is to assist American post collegiate runners who show great promise to develop into national and world-class road running athletes. The grants awarded by the RRCA go directly to the athletes to help support their goals of becoming world-class distance runners. While traditionally the RRCA has distributed six grants, the strong credentials and impressive potential of this year's pool of applicants, coupled with the ability to lay the groundwork for qualification in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics afforded the expansion of the 2013-14 class to eight recipients.

The RRCA Roads Scholar class includes: Cole Atkins, Meaghan Nelson, Alexi Pappas, Tyler Pennel, Gabe Procter, Mattie Suver, Daniel Tapia, and Amy Van Alstine.
