HIGH SCHOOL WEIGHT THROW PERFORMANCE LIST

The high school weight throw events have been progressively increasing in participants and quality the last few years.

Last year there were 225 boys over the 45 foot performance list standard with the 25 pound weight, and 222 girls over the 30 foot standard with the 20 pound weight.

These numbers far exceeded the intended top 100 for the performance lists.

Based on the approximate distance of the 125th thrower in each gender last year the standards for this year’s performance list are being changed to the following:

. Standards:

. Boys’ 25# 50’

. Boys’ 35# 40’ No change.

. Girls’ 20’ 35’

In order to be included on the performance list the athlete’s performance must have been made in a recognized competition.

The high school weight throw is an indoor event, but in a number of states (e.g. CA, FL, GA, MO, WA and others) the opportunities are very limited, if not nonexistent.

The performances at these meets do not meet indoor meet criteria, but should, and have been recognized on the performance lists.

In previous years indoor and outdoor performances have been included in the same lists with outdoor performances indicated with an “o” at the end of the line on the right which, among other things has caused a lot of confusion.

Starting with the 2013-2014 performance lists indoor and outdoor weight throw performances will be in separate sections as follows:

. Sections:

. Boys’ 25# Indoor

. Boys’ 25# Outdoor

. Boys’ 35# Indoor

. Boys’ 35# Outdoor

. Girls’ 20# Indoor

. Girls’ 20’# Outdoor

An athlete may be on both an indoor and an outdoor list, providing that the outdoor performance is better than the indoor performance.

In such a case, if and when such an athlete’s indoor performance then exceeds his/her outdoor performance the outdoor performance will be dropped from the list.

Wishing all throwers and coaches a great 2013-2014 throwing season.
