Lel, Kebede, Straneo Added to 2013 ING New York City Marathon Field
NEW YORK - 2013 Virgin Money London Marathon
champion and 2012-2013 World Marathon Majors leader Tsegaye Kebede, double ING New York City Marathon winner and two-time Virgin Money London champion Martin Lel, and 2013 IAAF World Championships Marathon silver medalist Valeria Straneo will compete in the 2013 ING New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 3, it was announced today by New York Road Runners president and CEO Mary Wittenberg.
The U.S. and international men and women's professional entrants were previously announced
Kebede, 26, of Ethiopia, is the 2008 Olympic Marathon bronze medalist and reigning Virgin Money London Marathon champion (2:06:04), as well as the winner of the 2012 Bank of America Chicago Marathon with a personal-best time of 2:04:38. He is also the 2011 ING New York City Marathon bronze medalist. Kebede is currently in first place on the men's 2012-2013 WMM series leaderboard. He also won the 2010 Virgin London Marathon (2:05:19).
Lel, 34, of Kenya, is a five-time marathon champion. He won the ING New York City Marathon in 2003 (2:10:30) and 2007 (2:09:04). He is also a three-time London Marathon Champion, claiming crowns in 2005 (2:07:26), 2007 (2:07:41), and 2008 (2:05:15), and setting a course record and personal best in the 2008 race, while also becoming the youngest man with five major victories.
Straneo, 37, of Italy recently earned the silver medal in the marathon at the 2013 IAAF World Championships with a time of 2:25:58. In 2012 at the Rotterdam Marathon, she broke the 12-year-old Italian marathon record with a personal-best time of 2:23:44. Straneo is also a 2012 Olympian in the marathon and the Italian half-marathon record holder (1:07:46).

Sara Bei Hall to Run Healdsburg Wine Country Half Marathon
HEALDSBURG, Calif. - Destination Races of Sonoma announced that Sara Bei Hall is making her half-marathon debut in the Healdsburg Wine Country Half Marathon on Saturday, October 26. Sara Hall is a native of Santa Rosa and ran for Montgomery High School, winning four state cross country titles, three state track titles (1600m and 3200m) and the Footlocker National High School Cross Country Championships in 2000.
Sara Hall is a seven-time All-American from Stanford, finishing runner-up in the 5,000 and indoor 3,000 meters and 3rd in the 2003 Women's Cross Country Championships. Sara is a three-time Olympic Trials Finalist, a Pan American Games Gold Medalist, and the 2012 US National Cross Country Champion.
Sara's husband, U.S. Olympian Ryan Hall, will be the guest speaker at the race dinner on Friday, October 25 at Trione Winery in Geyserville. Ryan is competing as one of the favorites in the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 3.

USATF Fans Help Select Jesse Owens Awards Winners
INDIANAPOLIS - Track and field fans have the opportunity to help select USA Track & Field's 2013 Jesse Owens Awards winners through online voting.
Honoring the country's top male and female track and field athletes, the Jesse Owens winners are selected by a vote of the media in combination with online fan balloting, with media votes weighing 90 percent of the vote and fan voting 10 percent.
Established in 1981, The Jesse Owens Award is USA Track & Field's highest accolade, presented annually to the outstanding U.S. male and female track & field performers. This year's awards will be presented December 7 at the Jesse Owens Awards and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, held in conjunction with USA Track & Field's 2013 Annual Meeting in Indianapolis.
Seven women and seven men are nominated, below. Online voting concludes at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday, Oct. 18.

ESPN's Hannah Storm and John Anderson Named Lead Hosts for ING New York City Marathon
SportsCenter anchors Hannah Storm and John Anderson will serve as co-hosts of ESPN's 2013 ING New York City Marathon coverage on Sunday, November 3. The event, which was cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy in 2012, will be presented live on national television (ESPN2) for the first time in 20 years - and for the first time in high definition.
In addition to the ESPN2 telecast, the race will also be available to national audiences via WatchESPN - for those who have video subscriptions from affiliated providers - and ESPN Deportes+, the network's Spanish-language ESPN3 extension. Locally, New Yorkers can watch the race on ABC7 or via WatchABC on mobile devices.
Led by Storm and Anderson, ESPN's New York City Marathon commentator team also includes reporter Jeremy Schaap and analysts Tim Hutchings, a former 5,000 meter Olympic competitor who has covered the past six summer Olympic Games, and Carrie Tollefson, an Olympian and five-time NCAA Champion.

Kimetto Rewrites Course Record at 36th Bank of America Chicago Marathon
CHICAGO (October 13, 2013) - In the 2013 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, 39,115 runners crossed the sun-splashed finish line in Grant Park under ideal weather conditions.
Kenya's
Dennis Kimetto smashed the men's course record with a 2 hour, 3 minutes, 45 second performance, taking 53 seconds off the previous mark set last year. In the women's competition, Kenya's
Rita Jeptoo cracked the 2:20 barrier with a winning time of 2:19:57, the fastest women's marathon time in the world this year.
"It was an incredible day at the 2013 Bank of America Chicago Marathon-one where the results from the course reflected the hard work and determination that was put in by the staff, the volunteers and our City of Chicago partners to make the event possible," said Executive Race Director
Carey Pinkowski. "I asked our elite athletes to be champions today-to show the strength of the running community-and all four of our race winners delivered in a big way. Congratulations to the more than 39,000 champions who reached the finish line in today's historic event."
