Gallagher Rewrites Women's Course Record at 2013 Army Ten Miler

ARLINGTON, Va. (October 20, 2013) - Kerri Gallagher
may have had the shortest trip from her new place in Rosslyn, Va., to the starting line of the 29th running of the Army Ten Miler. It's a very short walk.

But there is no disputing that the 24-year-old spent the shortest time out there on the 10-mile course of all the 12,070 women who finished the race this morning, a scorching 54 minutes, 56 seconds. Or that she spent the shortest time covering the course than any other woman in the race's long history, crushing Samia Akbar's previous record of 55:25 set in 2009.

The top men, on the other hand, came from afar to continue a tradition of competing with the U.S. Army's best. Since 2007, the Brazilian Army has pushed their American counterparts to the max, frequently dominating the top ranks.

This year, the Brazilians made it a clean sweep, taking the first three places and taking advantage of a lack of Ethiopian depth which the Army Ten Miler typically draws. Solonei Silva led the charges in 48:04, trailed by teammate Paulo Paula in 48:06 and Frank Caldeira in 48:08 before American and DC resident Chris Kwiatkowski broke the Latin America streak in 48:17.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (October 20, 2013) - Athletes in the

For the second year in a row, the women's half-marathon record fell. The new record was set by women's winner Leslie Sexton of London, Ontario ran it in one hour, 13 minutes, 13 seconds.
For the 7th year in a row, the Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Marathon sold-out - by Sept. 30, in record time.

Coloradans Win Rock 'n' Roll Denver Marathon, Half Marathon

DENVER (October 20, 2013) - More than 15,000 runners took over the streets of Denver at the 4th edition Sports Authority Rock 'n' Roll Denver Marathon & ½ Marathon t
oday. While the weather was chilly, Denver did not disappoint with a stunning backdrop of brilliant fall colors for participants to enjoy along the course. The scenery was accompanied by the sounds of live local bands, encouraging cheerleaders, supportive spectators and runners from all 50 states and 11 foreign countries.

Among the runners was first-time marathoner Tommy Dialynas, a recent transplant to Denver who ran away with overall marathon title in 2 hours, 27 minutes, 39 seconds, and
Nicole Chyr, a tenacious local marathon veteran who won the women's race in 2:51:08. Chyr also finished third and second, respectively, in this race the previous two years and has also won other marathons, including the Kauai Marathon
in Hawaii six weeks ago.

"I was pretty happy with my time, for my first marathon," said Dialynas, who works as a financial consultant in Denver. "I took it out much too fast and really paid for it the last four miles. I kind of felt myself cramping up at the end. I wish I would have been able to finish harder, but I'm really happy I stuck with it and tried to finish the best I could. It was a great learning experience and it was a great course."
