ACTIVE Network Unveils New Look

The ACTIVE Network, Inc., announced the rollout of the new look and functionality of ACTIVE.com. The latest release of ACTIVE.com wraps personalized race feeds, custom alerts, and all new fitness-training guides into its striking new design. The new site features a range of enhancements, including: Activity and race feeds personalized for individual users; Race registration alerts reminders so enthusiasts never miss a race; Training guides for event and race day preparation.



Marine Corps Historic Half Boasts Economic Impact

As much as $21 million was spent by event participants in the Marine Corps Historic Half throughout the City of Fredericksburg, VA, from May 17-19, according to an economic impact study. "The Sixth Annual Marine Corps Historic Half: Economic Contribution and Characteristics of Participants," was conducted by Dr. Mukesh Srivastava, a Business professor at the University of Mary Washington.



Walt Disney World Marathon Reaches Announces Sell-Out

The 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon presented by reached its runner capacity in just under four months, marking one of the fastest marathon sell-outs in runDisney history. Nearly 26,000 registered runners will participate in the Disney Marathon Weekend with more than 13,500 of those runners signed up specifically for the 26.2-mile marathon. The 2014 event will be the first time Disney Marathon Weekend (January 8-12) will be a five-day event with the recent addition of the 10K and the Dopey Challenge (running the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and Marathon), giving runners who register for the challenge the chance to earn as many as six finishers medals.


Outside Interactive Announces Partnerships

Vail Recreation District Shares Race Success

The Vail Recreation District wrapped up the 4th annual KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race, presented by KidSPORT, with nearly 460 kids, ages 6-14 completed during the two days of racing.



Little Rock Marathon Announces Sponsors

Windstream Communications, a Fortune 500 company and leader of advanced network communications, has signed on to become the presenting sponsor of the 2014 Little Rock Marathon to be held in Little Rock, AR, on March 2, 2014. Additionally, KARK Channel 4 has renewed its sponsorship of the Little Rock Marathon Training Program. An informational meeting for individuals interested in training for the 2014 Little Rock Marathon and companion races will be held Tuesday, August 20, in the River Market, 3
rd floor, 400 President Clinton Avenue in Little Rock.


Akron Marathon Announces Competition
The Akron Marathon, presented by Time Warner Cable, is offering local artists the opportunity to have their artwork featured as the official poster of the 2013 Akron Marathon. The winning entry will be printed as the commemorative poster for the 11th running of the Akron Marathon, which will take place on September 28, 2013.



Pikes Peak Marathon Organizers to Host Highest Competitive Mile Race

Some of the toughest middle-distance and mountain runners in the country will test their lungs and legs on Tuesday, August 13, in the inaugural Pikes Peak High-Altitude Mile at the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak. Details at this link.

Mud Run Upcoming in Little Rock
Registration is now open for the 11th Annual Mud Run to be held October 26, 2014 at Two Rivers Parks in Little Rock, AR. Affectionately called Little Rock's Dirtiest 5K, the Mud Run is a project of Little Rock Parks & Recreation.


Newton Running Announces New Footwear

Newton Running is launching its first dedicated trail running shoe, the BoCo AT, this fall.


People in the News


Josh Nemzer has joined the Boston Athletic Association (BAA), as Manager of Operations of all their road race events. Nemzer started his new role with the BAA on August 12.


The Dallas Marathon board of trustees named industry veteran Patrick Byerly as president of the official marathon of the City of Dallas. The position is a new addition to the MetroPCS® Dallas Marathon® staff, which Byerly will assume on September 9, 2013.
