Harper Finishes Fourth in 100m Hurdles at World Championships

UCLA alumna Dawn Harper (USA) placed fourth in the women’s 100m hurdles final on Saturday, Aug. 17 at the 2013 IAAF World Championships held at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia.

Harper’s time in the women’s 100m hurdles final was 12.59 (-0.6w). Winning the Gold Medal was USA’s Brianna Rollins (12.44), followed by Silver Medalist Sally Pearson (season-best 12.50) of Australia and Bronze Medalist Tiffany Porter (personal-best 12.55) from Great Britain. Rollins is a USA and NCAA Champion, and Pearson is the defending Olympic gold medalist.

Ninety minutes before the women’s 100m hurdles final were the semi-final heats. In that competition, Harper ran in heat three, placing second, with an automatic qualifying mark 12.61 (-0.7w) to advance to the final. Her time was the third-best overall semi-final mark. Harper had advanced to the semifinals by placing third in her qualifying heat and sixth overall in the preliminaries with a time of 12.84 (-0.4w).

Harper has been one of the World’s most successful women’s 100m hurdlers. As the current Diamond League champion, she had an automatic bye to the World Championships. Coached by Bobby Kersee with a PR of 12.37 (2012), Harper is the 2008 Olympic gold medalist and 2012 Olympic silver medalist, as well as a two-time USA Outdoor 100m hurdles champion (2009/2012). As a Bruin, Harper was a three-time NCAA Outdoor All-America (2004-06) in the 100m hurdles and a three-time NCAA Indoor All-America (2004-06) in the 60m hurdles. In UCLA history, her mark of 12.80 (2006) is No. 3 all-time.
