Brown Sprints to National Championship
Incoming UI freshman grabs gold at USATF National Junior Olympic Championships
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Incoming University of Iowa freshman Brittany Brown won the 100 meters national championship at the 2013 USATF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships on Sunday. The event was held at the Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C., July 22-28.
Brown, a native Chino, Calif., earned a gold medal when she crossed the line in 11.61. Brown beat out 55 other athletes in the first round of the competition when she posted her fastest meet time of 11.56. She then posted a second-place finish in the semi-finals (11.78) before grabbing gold in finals.
Brown is one of 26 recruits expected to join the Hawkeyes this fall.
