CHARLOTTESVILLE - The Virginia men's and women's track and field teams will take to the road for the first time this outdoor season as they travel to Berkeley, Calif., for a tri-meet with California and Michigan. The Cavalier women will compete against the No. 9 Wolverines and No. 11 Golden Bears, while the men face the No. 12 California and No. 15 Michigan on Saturday at Edwards Stadium.

This year marks the debut of this tri-meet featuring three of the nation's top public universities. Virginia will host the meet in 2014 at Lannigan Field.

The field action begins at 9:30 a.m. PT with the hammer throw, with running events beginning at noon PT.

Last week, most of the Cavaliers competed at the Virginia Invitational, their second home meet of the spring. The men and women combined to win 12 individual events and set seven all-time top-10 performances at the meet that featured eight schools. The men finished second in the scoring behind Charlotte and the women finished second behind Kent State.

Senior Catherine Whiteis making her second trip to the Bay Area in as many weeks after competing at last week's Stanford Invitational. She ran the second-fastest 10,000 meters in school history at 33:07.36, the fourth-fastest time in the nation this year.

Virginia will return to action next weekend as they travel Fairfax, Va., for the George Mason Spring Invitational on April 13.
