USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Backed by six additions to the program record book, the Air Force track and field team posted a combined 3-1 record in its home meet with New Mexico and Northern Colorado on Friday, April 12, at the Academy's Cadet Outdoor Complex.

The men went 2-0 on the day, defeating both New Mexico (228-121) and Northern Colorado (259-78), while the women split the day with a 201-129 win over the Bears and a narrow 177-167 loss to the Lobos. Six incursions were made to the program's all-time standings during Friday's competition - the first triangular meet to be hosted by the Academy since May 2000.

For the second straight week, both the men's and women's 4x100-meter relay teams improved their standing on the program's all-time lists. The men's squad of senior Uzor Udensi, senior Anthony Delgado, sophomore Jake Spuller and junior David Ptacek won their race in 40.70 ... a time that is tied for fourth on the program's all-time list. The women's quartet of senior Bethany Gross, freshman Naomi Alston, sophomore Morgan Malone and junior Kassie Gurnell clocked a third-place time of 47.75 to move into fourth on the program standings.

Individually, sophomore Danielle Tabb used a distance of 47'6½" to win the shot put and move from sixth to fourth on the program's all-time list, while junior Annette Eichenberger made her collegiate debut in the 400-meter dash and promptly clocked the eighth-fastest time in Academy history (57.01) to finish second. On the men's side, senior Rob Simmons used a clearance of 16'11" to win the pole vault and make his first appearance on the all-time standings (10th), while Grant Hamilton used a distance of 170'2" to set a new Freshman Class Record in the discus throw, adding two feet to the mark that had stood since 1991.

In addition to the victories by Tabb, Simmons and the men's 4x100-meter relay team, Air Force accounted for 15 other first-place finishes.

Senior James Chambers collected a pair of event titles this afternoon, as he used career-best marks to win both the shot put (53'5½") and discus throw (174'5"). He was one of three Falcons to earn multiple first-place finishes, as Spuller and Delgado, who ran the middle two legs of the winning 4x1, took first in the 200-meter dash (season-best 21.42) and 400-meter dash (season-best 48.68), respectively.

Senior Brian Ford and junior Tim Urista helped Air Force to a sweep of the throwing event titles. Ford tossed a 187'7" to win the hammer throw, while Urista scored a distance of 206'11¼" to take first in the javelin. Sophomore Blue Kearney won the long jump with a season-best distance of 23'2½", while sophomore Zach Perkins and freshman Joe Wilkin rounded out the men's event winners with first-place finishes in the 800-meter run (career-best 1:52.23) and 110-meter hurdles (15.22).

On the women's side, sophomore Nikki Freeman collected her fourth javelin title in as many meets, as she won that event with a distance of 135'4¾". Gurnell won her fourth triple jump title in five outdoor meets with a distance of 40'3¼".

Like the men, the women also swept the throwing events. Junior Becca Bauman joined Tabb and Freeman as event winners, taking first in both the discus and hammer events. Bauman, who won the discus with a mark of 141'10", used a mark of 162'7" to better the hammer throw field by nearly 20 feet.

Junior Rachel Herald won the high jump with a clearance of 5'5", while seniors Jen Bremser and Kate Kanetzky picked up event titles on the track. Bremser used a strong final lap to win the 1500-meter run in a career-best time of 4:50.84, while Kanetzky came from behind in the final 100 meters to win the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:40.37.

The Falcons swept the top three places in the men's pole vault, shot put and hammer throw, as well as the women's javelin throw. With matching marks of 16'0¾", junior Cort Rogers and freshman Dylan Bell finished second and third, respectively, behind Simmons in the pole vault, while Hamilton (50'2½") and senior Shane Cox (season-best 46'5¼") took the same two placements behind Chambers in the shot put. Junior William Kent took second to Ford in the hammer throw (182'8"), while classmate Jalen Fooster finished third with a mark of 170'8¾". On the women's side, Freeman paced junior Kim Smith and freshman Jacki French to respective second- (126'3½") and third-place (career-best 122'0¾") finishes in the javelin throw.

The Falcons return to action next week, when they travel to California for three competitions. Air Force's multi-event athletes will take part in the Mt. SAC/California Invitational Decathlon and Heptathlon in Azusa on April 17-18, while the rest of the squad will compete at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 18-20 in Walnut and at the Beach Invitational on April 19-20 in Cerritos.
