FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State started the season off with a bang, qualifying four Bulldogs, two men and two women, for the NCAA Regional at the first meet of the year, the Cal Opener in Berkeley, Calif. The Bulldogs competed in the unscored five-way meet against Cal, Stanford, UC Davis and San Francisco at Edwards Stadium.
The four qualifications came out of the Bulldog's throwing corps. For the women, NCAA Regional veterans Kayla Xavier and Grace Wiesmann won the shot put and the hammer, respectively, to earn bids for the postseason. Fresno State newcomers, juniors Peter Krumeich and Tim Greene were qualifiers for the men in the javelin and the hammer throws. "It was a good start to the season," said head coach Scott Winsor. "The throwers really stepped up today. Those qualifications were a great way to open up the season.:
