Hoosiers Win Eight Events, Three School Records Fall

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Hoosier track and field team returned to action for the first time in the 2016-17 season, and did so in record breaking fashion.

In the marquee race of the evening, Katherine Receveur crossed first in the 5,000m run with a time of 15:50.30, a new school record.  Katherine breaks the record previously held by All-American Michelle Dekkers.  The record stood for nearly 27 years.  Bryce Millar finished third on the men's side with a blistering time of 13:59.04, the eighth best mark in school history.

Willie Morrison shattered the school record in the shot put.  His second throw of the evening traveled 19.47m (63 ft. 10.5 in.) to break Nathan Davis' record by over a foot.  Davis held the record for over 20 years.  David Schall joined Morrison on the top 10 list with a heave of 18.41m (60 ft. 5 in.), placing him sixth on the all-time Hoosier list.

Adrian Mable started his senior season out with a bang, running a lifetime best time of 8.05 in a highly competitive 60m hurdle final.  His time is good for fifth best in school history and earned him a fifth place finish in the event.

Brenna Calder led the way for a Hoosier sweep in the 1,000m run.  Calder won in dominating fashion, beating the second place runner by nearly two seconds, finishing with a time of 2:46.47 yet another school record.  On the men's side Jordan Huntoon surged to the lead with 200 meters to go and never looked back.  Haley Harris took first in the women's one mile run.

Corinne Cominator took first in the women's 3,000m race.  Kyle Mau set the new Hoosier Open record in the men's 3k, finishing with a winning time of 8:14.51.

The Hoosiers will have roughly a month off before returning to the track on January 7th.  IU will take on the Tennessee Volunteers at Gladstein Fieldhouse.  As always, follow along with the team on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.
