With another successful year nearly behind us, the IAAF would like to wish everyone in the global athletics family a festive holiday season and a happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year. We thank you all for supporting our sport in 2016, a memorable 12 months of competition that was celebrated earlier this month at the IAAF Athletics Awards 2016 where Usain Bolt and Almaz Ayana were crowned World Athletes of the Year.
The conclusion of 2016 also brings with it our traditional look back at the year gone by, beginning with our end-of-year reviews. The annual series, once again authored by renowned statisticians Mirko Jalava and A. Lennart Julin, begins today with a review of the race walks provided by an expert of the discipline, Paul Warburton. That will be followed by Jalava and Julin's reviews of the relays (Wednesday 21), the combined events (Thursday 22), throws (Friday 23) and jumps (Saturday 24).
The reviews continue with the hurdles (Monday 26), road running and cross country (Tuesday 27), long distances (Wednesday 28), middle distances (Thursday 29) and conclude with the sprints (Friday 30).
The event category reviews will then be followed with a look back at the 2016 IAAF Diamond League and 2016 IAAF World Challenge.
Next year brings with it another four IAAF World Athletics Series events, including the IAAF World Championships London 2017, as well as the various IAAF circuits headed by the revamped IAAF Diamond League. We're eagerly looking forward to sharing and experiencing those events with you as well.
Please note that the IAAF offices in Monaco will be closed from the end of business on Friday 23 December until Tuesday 3 January but the website will be updated daily except for Christmas day.
