Brinkley, a senior communication major, is recognized for his leadership as well as his athletic accomplishments.
The Kingwood, Texas, native is a three-time NCAA West Prelims qualifier in the 1,500 meters. In 2013, he won the U.S. junior national championship in that event and represented the United States at the Pan Am Junior Championships in Colombia.
Brinkley is co-chair of the Cardinal Council and served as co-chair of the Student-Athlete Welfare Committee last year. Brinkley was a two-time first team Pac-12 All-Academic team honoree for track and field was a USTFCCCA All-Academic selection.
He won Stanford’s Lawrence Berman Prize for Best Undergraduate Essay in religious studies. Boasting a 3.826 grade point average, he is expected to graduate in June 2016 and intends to focus on religious studies in graduate school.
The Pac-12 Leadership Award is selected by members of the Pac-12 Student-Athlete Advisory Council and is a $3,000 postgraduate scholarship designed to recognize leadership and service on student-athlete advisory committees at Pac-12 member institutions. Applicants were required to be in their final year of intercollegiate athletics eligibility and on track to graduate in the 2015-16 academic year.
This is the second consecutive year a Stanford male has won the Leadership Award, following basketball player Robbie Lemons.
