Flanagan, Derrick Headline USA 15K Championships


The 37th running of the GATE River Run 15K, host of the USA 15K Championship on Saturday, Mar. 15 is shaping up with another record year for participation, and the men's and women's elite fields are on pace to be among the strongest ever.


.The elite field in the USA 15K Championship includes:


5 Olympians
4 past Gate River Run Champions including 2013 defending champions Ben True and Janet Cherobon-Bawcom (2012 and 2013)
Shalane Flanagan, Olympic bronze medalist and current American Record holder at 10,000 meters
Both 2014 US Cross-Country champions Chris Derrick and Amy Van Alstine
6 of the top 7 men from 2013
6 of the top 8 women from 2013
15 competitive teams from 8 states vying for the TenBroeck Cup

Olympic and World Champion Mo Farah to Headline 2014 NYC Half


NEW YORK - Mo Farah of Great Britain, a double Olympic champion and three-time world champion, will headline the men's field at the NYC Half on Sunday, March 16, it was announced today by New York Road Runners president and CEO Mary Wittenberg.


"We're very excited to welcome Mo back to the NYC Half," said Wittenberg. "This is a huge thrill for New Yorkers, who will get to see the world's top distance runner on the streets of Manhattan before he makes his full marathon debut in London. Mo's star quality and fan following are unmatched in our sport, and we are honored to have him highlight our professional field."



Farah, 30, was a double gold medalist at the 2012 London Olympic Games (5000 and 10,000 meters) and also won both of those events at the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow, thus becoming only the second man in history to simultaneously hold all four global distance titles

BMO Harris Bank Madison Mini-Marathon & 5K is a Winner for Local Economy


MADISON, Wis. - Runner's World magazine ranked the BMO Harris Bank Madison Mini-Marathon & 5K the 14th best half-marathon in the nation which is owned and produced by Vision Event Management. This half-m arathon is popular with runners across the country, attracting nearly 6,000 participants in 2013, and the event's impact on the local economy had previously been unassessed.


Kent State's College of Business Administration conducted a study on the economic impact of the Madison Mini-Marathon, led by Shawn Rohlin, Ph.D., of the university's Department of Economics.


The Madison Mini-Marathon created a total economic impact of approximately $5.4 million, according to the Kent State study.

Bernard Lagat to Race 2014 Carlsbad 5000


CARLSBAD, Calif. - If you're looking for a record-breaking performance, then
Bernard Lagat is your man and the
Carlsbad 5000

is your race.

The 39-year-old Lagat, one of the world's all-time great distance runners, will be making his Carlsbad debut on Sunday, March 30 and his goal is to try and break the American record of 13 minutes, 24 seconds set by San Diego native Marc Davis in 1996.



"I'm happy to finally make it to the start line of the Carlsbad 5000," Lagat said. "It's been on my radar for some time, but we just never managed to get there to toe the line. It's a truly iconic U.S. road race with a great history of world records with many of the finest athletes of all time adding their names to the list of champions. I'm looking forward to racing on the west coast after what I hope is a successful defense of my world indoor title over 3000 meters."

Flying Pig Marathon Announces New Fall Half Marathon


CINCINNATI (February 25, 2014) - The
Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon powered by P&G is adding a female-themed fall half marathon, the "Queen Bee Half Marathon," to be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014.


The Queen Bee Half Marathon will follow a new half marathon course tour of Greater Cincinnati, with a post party. The event also will feature a "Bee-u-tique" before the event highlighting pampering and wellness, with a fashion show featuring leisure wear and sportswear.



"The Flying Pig Marathon is proud to offer this new half marathon, not just for women, but to all runners and walkers in Greater Cincinnati," said
Iris Simpson-Bush, executive
director. "As in all our Flying Pig events, the primary aim is raising money for our charities, but we want it to be a fun, 'girls' weekend' destination event."
