STANFORD, Calif. - Virginia senior distance runner Catherine White ran the second-fastest time in school history in the 10,000 meters Friday night at the Stanford Invitational. Running against an elite field, White ran the race in 33:07.36, breaking her personal best by 14 seconds.
White finished eighth in the field, which included collegians and Olympians. Shalane Flanagan, the American record holder in the 10,000m and the bronze medalist at the Beijing Olympics in the event, won the race. White was fourth among collegiate runners, which accounted for the 18 fastest times in Division I in the nation this year.
The rest of the Cavaliers will be in action Saturday at the Virginia Invitational at Lannigan Field.
