Course Records Fall on GO! St. Louis Marathon Weekend
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (April 7, 2013) - GO! St. Louis Half Marathon winners Aaron Braun and Mattie Suver rewrote the course records Sunday, while Geoffrey Kiprotich, who also set a course record, and Autumn Ray captured the marathon portion of GO! St. Louis Marathon Weekend.
Braun (above, courtesy GO! St. Louis), 25, from Flagstaff, Ariz. set a new GO! St. Louis Half Marathon record, with a time of 1 hour, three minutes, 13 seconds. Braun, was closely followed by Jordan Chipangama, 24, also a Flagstaff resident, in 1:03:22. Josphat Boit of Little Rock, Ark., finished third in 1:03:52.
On the women's side, first time GO! St. Louis Half Marathon champion Suver, 25, from Colorado Spring, Colo., established a new women's half-marathon course record, posting a time of 1:12:22. The mark handily eclipsed the previous record set by Serena Ramsey (Burla) of 1:14:13, in 2007. Tera Moody, 32, from Boulder, Colo. finished second with a time of 1:12:34. Sara Kiptoo, 23, of Santa Fe, NM finished third in 1:12:51.
Braun and Suver both secured the $10,000 top prize in the half-marathon. Second place finishers in the men's and women's divisions both received $5,000, while third place received $2,000.

Locals Win Transamerica Rock 'n' Roll San Francisco Half Marathon
SAN FRANCISCO - (April 7, 2013) - A cool fog settled over Aquatic Park as the inaugural Transamerica Rock 'n' Roll San Francisco Half Marathon took off, meandering along a stunningly scenic course including an invigorating run across the Golden Gate Bridge and a waterfront finish on Sunday morning.
Ideal running weather helped propel runners up the hills of San Francisco and across the finish line. Local runner Chris Mocko, 27, led the men's field in 1 hour, 16 minutes, 59 seconds, beating Peter Birney of Walnut Creek by nearly two minutes. After a rough recent bout of training, Mocko said he was surprised and pleased to take the win in his hometown.
"My goal today was just to survive so it's nice to get some momentum for the season. It was a beautiful day - I should have run ten minutes faster with the weather. The crowds were great too and all the cheering and music really helped me across the bridge."
Twenty-five-year-old Tim Cole came in third, finishing in 1:20:13.
On the women's race, Elle Pishny, 27, was the only female in sight, running alongside the lead men. Finishing fourth overall, the San Francisco local won in 1:20:30. As she crossed the Golden Gate Bridge, runners on the other side were cheering her on.

Gebremeskel Three-Peats at Carlsbad 5000
CARLSBAD, Calif. (April 7, 2013) - The possibility of a world-record was out the window by the 1-mile mark, but that didn't worry Ethiopian Dejen Gebremeskel. Victory was his only objective on Sunday afternoon at the Carlsbad 5000.
Sitting pretty in a pack of 13 through a strategic first mile split of 4:22, the 23-year-old bided his time through the first hairpin turn 1.25 miles into the race before countryman Yenew Alamirew
ratcheted down the pace with a 4:17 second mile split into a headwind heading north along Coast Boulevard. Gebremeskel and John Kipkoech
of Kenya were the only two runners that went with the the 22-year-old Ethiopians's strong surge, and with a half mile to go Gebremeskel asserted himself as the man to chase. Coming off the final turn toward the finish line, Gebremeskel (above, PhotoRun) was clear of his two pursuers and held his lead through the finish line to win in 13 minutes, 21 seconds -- the slowest winning time at the World's Fastest 5K
since 2008."Today was special for me to win three times," said Gebremeskel, the silver medalist in the 5,000m at last summer's Olympic Games in London. "Carlsbad is like family so I will come every year. I'm glad to get the win. After winning Carlsbad last year I had a lot of success, and hope that this year I will have a lot of success with the World Championships. I hope to win a medal."

Reid, Uhl Win Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K
CHICAGO (April 7, 2013) - More than 33,000 runners hit the streets of downtown Chicago this morning to ring in the spring at the 34th Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K. Sunny skies and ideal running conditions greeted participants with temperatures in the mid 50s, making for a festive atmosphere on the race course and at the Post-Race Party at Buckingham Fountain.
The first runner across the finish line was Phillip Reid, 27, of San Luis Obispo, Calif., in 23:08. The women's winner was U.S. Olympian Lisa Uhl, 25, of Des Moines, Iowa, in 25:54. Reid's winning time was the fastest run on the course since 2002.
Reid was surprised to break the finish tape after U.S. Olympian Dathan Ritzenhein withdrew from the race earlier in the week. He earned a two-second victory over Jacob Riley, 24, of Rochester Hills, Mich.
Joe Moore, 29, of Minneapolis, Minn., was third in 23:14.
