Maiyo Leads String of Top-10 Finishes For ADP at the US 20k Championships

(New Haven, CT) - Augustus Maiyo (US Army) led a 3-4-5 punch at the US 20k Championships hosted by the Straton Faxton New Haven 20k on Labor Day, and likely earned a spot on the US national team for the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in October. Maiyo, who finished with a time of 59:39, rallied at the end of the rolling 12.4-mile course to take bronze, while Army teammates Joseph Chirlee (59:54) and Robert Cheseret (1:00:00) finished in order behind besting an impressive domestic field. Cheseret had moved early in the race with runner-up Luke Puskedra before returning to the chase pack, while Chirlee paired with eventual winner Matthew Tegankamp to chase Puskedra at half way. But it was Maiyo's patience and consistent effort that led him to a solid third place showing, his highest in a US championship.

In the women's race, Alisha Williams (adidas/BRC) finished 6th at 1:09:11, likely also qualifying her for the World Half Marathon Championships, while Wendy Thomas (adidas/BRC) and Mattie Suver (Brooks) were 12th and 13th.

ADP Book CANOVATHON: Conversations With Renato Canova, Master Distance Coach Released

(Colorado Springs, CO) - The American Distance Project released a new book, CANOVATHON: Conversations With Renato Canova, Master Distance Coach. The 132-page book is the first to detail the philosophies and coaching theories of Renato Canova in his own words. The book actually transcribes five hour-long conversations held between Canova and other well known coaches, including legendary distance coach Dr. Joe Vigil and Olympic swimming coach David Marsh.

Canova, recognized as one of the best distance coaches in the world, details his approach to marathon training which has led to both World and Olympic medals, as well as the second fastest marathon and the fastest marathon debut in Moses Mosop's 2011 2:03:06 at Boston.

Filled with candor and humor, the words of Canova portray a coach who cares deeply for the sport of distance running and who cares even more deeply for the athletes that he coaches. In total, Canova has coached over 32 athletes who have posted personal bests better than American Records in events ranging from 800-meters up to the marathon.

The conversational format of the book helps to clarify and simply Canova's philosophies, making the book a must read
for every coach, fan and athlete.
