Dear Coach,
I want to invite you and your team to the 9th Annual Yolo County Championships. The race course is held at the Muller Vineyard just a few miles beyond the city of Woodland.
Registration this year again will be online using www.athletic.net. Red Cap Timing who also times the SJS Section Championships as well as many other local top events will be using “chip” technology this year to ensure accurate and quick results. There will be no day of the event entries for high school athletes! Please make sure that your athletes are indeed running as you will be charged per runner for timing services.
I look forward to your attendance and hope that your visit and racing experience will be enjoyable and competitive. For specific questions about this event please contact Chuck Bruns at chuckbruns@sbcglobal.net or by phone at 916-947-9220.
Chuck Bruns

General Meet Instructions
Directions, Parking, Packet pick-up:
The Yolo County Championships is contested on private property, which is a commercial vineyard operation. To reach the meet from Sacramento on Interstate-5 you will exit the Yolo Exit (Exit 542, 2.7 miles north of the West St. Exit in Woodland). Turn left onto Co. Rd. 17, go over the overpass and drive 1.7 miles. Turn left onto Co. Rd. 95A and continue .4 miles, the road turns to the right and becomes Co. Rd. 17A for .3 miles. Turn left onto Co. Rd. 95A and drive .5 miles and then turn right onto Co. Rd. 18. Large colorful signs and balloons from the freeway exit will also help guide vehicles to the race site. Buses will be instructed on how to drop off and pick up athletes by parking control on site the morning of the meet. You can be of great help by informing us if you are bringing a bus so that we can get a general count ahead of the event. Personal automobiles and small vans will be directed to park along road 18 and in the overflow area (refer to the enclosed map and directions) by parking personnel. Upon arrival, please check-in at the official registration table to confirm fee payment and pick up your team packet which will include your “final” instructions, race labels and bibs to be worn by your athletes, and course maps.

Starting line and race-course: All races will be given a first and second call. Please carefully note the race order and have your athletes ready to run as respective races near. Large and small school races will be run as a combined race unless fields are deemed large enough to warrant separate races. The first run of the day will be the Coaches and Community 2 Mile Run. It is planned that the JV boys run will begin before 12:00 p.m. The clerk of course will check for bibs, jewelry or uniform violations (with adherence to National Federation and CIF guidelines) and assign starting boxes – two athletes per team in a box.

The courses feature wide groomed trails through the picturesque Yolo County vineyards of the Muller Family property. Please make sure that your runners stay out of the vineyards and on designated trails and official team areas at all times! No dogs should be on this property – owner of dogs will be asked to leave! Please make sure your respective parents are aware of these guidelines. Failure to heed this warning could result in a team’s disqualification as well as not being invited back in the future. The courses include a short stretch of asphalt near the starting line. The 5K course is very challenging! You might encourage your parents and fans to bring binoculars!

T-shirts and Concessions: Commemorative T-Shirts will be sold for $15.00 on race day. A limited number will be available for purchase. A concession stand with coffee, hot cocoa, sodas, bottled water, bagels, muffins, fruits, home baked goods, snack-bars and much more will be offered.

Water, Restrooms and Shade Shelter: Due to the remote nature of this setting, your team should come prepared with plenty of water and liquid refreshment. You are encouraged to bring a shade shelter as limited shade and protection from the sun will be available. Portable restrooms will be on site.

Scoring, Online Registration and Results: All divisions with team awards will use standard scoring allowing for 6th and 7th runner displacement. Individual runners will not be counted in the score. Online entry information will be submitted via www.athletic.net and you must submit your entries by Monday, September 17th at midnight.

Race management plans to provide complete results at the conclusion of the event. Full and complete results as well as outstanding photos (noted photographers Joe Hartman and Margaret Gallagher have submitted photos in the past) will be featured on: www.dyestatcal.com and other online TBA sites.

Awards:

A variety of medals, ribbons and merchandise gifts will be awarded based on numbers of entrants to cover at least the top 10% individual runners in most races. We will have team awards as in the past. Our mission here is to create an epic event that will be an annual (as it has been for many) destination race for your team. We will publish a final precise and specific awards listing within a week of the event.
