Honda LA Marathon's "26.2 Miles To Stardom Sweepstakes" Closes on Friday, October 28

Five unique LA prize packages from the four cities along "Stadium to the Sea" course

LOS ANGELES - (October 24, 2011) - With five unique prize packages on the line, now may be the most opportune time to register for the 2012 Honda LA Marathon.

Runners who register for next year's race before 11:59pm on Friday, October 28 will be automatically entered to win star-worthy shopping sprees, hotel stays and meals from establishments along the marathon's "Stadium to the Sea" route.

The world class "Stadium to the Sea" course debuted in 2010, and marked the first time the race had extended beyond the City of Los Angeles' boundaries. In so doing, it created a unique partnership among four cities - Los Angeles, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica - and the federal government at the Veterans' Administration property in West Los Angeles. The course now features a landmark every mile, with noteworthy sites including Walt Disney Concert Hall, Grauman's Chinese Theater and the Capital Records Building.

The "26.2 Miles to Stardom Sweepstakes" will feature prizes from the four cities along the course as well as one grand prize combo package. All runners who have signed up for the March 18, 2012 race since registration opened in July will be included in the sweepstakes. Winners will be notified via e-mail by Wednesday, November 2.

"What better way to showcase the highlight reel of landmarks and sights along our four-city course, than to offer our runners the opportunity to experience the finest qualities of these cities," said LA MARATHON LLC Chief Operating Officer Nick Curl. "All runners deserve the star treatment, so we encourage anyone considering participating in next year's race to register by Friday and enter to win."

The Los Angeles prize winner will enjoy a two-night stay at the four-star Millennium Biltmore Hotel located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. In addition, he or she will receive two tickets to the Honda LA Marathon's official "Carbo-Load Dinner" the night before the race at the Hard Rock Café Hollywood. The dinner will include guest speakers, entertainment and additional giveaways.

The West Hollywood prize winner will be picked up by a Honda car service and taken to BOA, one of the hottest restaurants in West Hollywood to enjoy dinner for two, valued at $250. The Beverly Hills prize features a $500 shopping spree on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills and the Santa Monica prize offers a personal shopper experience in the Santa Monica K-Swiss store. The lucky grand prize winner will receive a combination of all four city prizes.

Registration is currently open on the Honda LA Marathon's official website - www.lamarathon.com. The event's $145 registration fee covers participation in the race and related activities, including admission to a two-day pre-race expo at Dodger Stadium (March 16-17), free runner shuttles to the race start, on-course nourishment and support, a spectacular finish line festival, a technical participant t-shirt, a collectible finisher's medal and much more.

Kirwa, Mudy Win Inaugural 13.1 Dallas

Event partners with Team World Vision to raise funds for clean water in Kenya and Malawi; ten beat the Karhu Bear in Uptown 5 Mile

From Valerie Bell

DALLAS - (October 22, 2011) - On Saturday morning, the inaugural 13.1 Dallas & Uptown 5 Mile gave runners the unique opportunity to run unobstructed through Downtown Dallas and surrounding areas, including Uptown, Katy Trail, Turtle Creek, Highland Park, American Airlines Center and West End.

"Our goal was to bring America's hottest Half Marathon Series to our hometown and we have exceeded all expectations," said Founding Partner and CEO Greg Laird. "13.1 Dallas is also partnering with Team World Vision to help raise funds for the clean water projects that are changing people's lives in Kenya and Malawi which gives the race a purpose and a vision not to mention some of the greatest runners from the U.S. and around the world."

Among the 2,000-plus registered half-marathon runners were several world class runners, including Daniel Kirwa, 24, who edged runner-up and fellow Kenyan Samuel Kosgei by one second, finishing in 1 hour, 5 minutes and 12 seconds.

"This course is awesome - maybe one of the best in the world," said Poland's Justyna Mudy, 27, the women's champion who covered the 13.1 mile course in 1:16:10, a personal record.

The Uptown Run 5 Mile invited racers to try and "Beat the Karhu Bear" and win a FREE pair of Karhu running shoes of their choice. Karhu, the running shoe sponsor of the event, means "bear" in Finnish. The Karhu costumed bear was local runner Edgar Martinez.

And in Dallas, ten runners beat the Karhu Bear!: Roger Clifford (men's winner, 29:44), Brandon Summers, Andrew Bitmansour, Joshua Thompson, Melisa Christian (women's winner, 30:14), Andy Orior, Janice Moore, Keith Driscoll, Roxana Wroblewski and Duncan Newman.

The Uptown Five Mile Run partnered with the Dallas-based Leadership Foundation, founded by Matt Nordgren. The partnership will create a one-of-a-kind VIP experience and help raise money for empowering underprivileged youth through sports and education.

The races began and finished at the AT&T Performing Arts Center where runners and their friends and families were invited to spend the morning enjoying food, music by Professor D and a post race party after the races fueled by Michelob ULTRA.

Dodge Rock 'n' Roll Los Angeles Half Marathon Debuts New Race Route

Start and finish at L.A. LIVE; Olympic medalist Deena Kastor, defending race champions to lead more than 10,000 entrants; Bret Michaels finish line concert highlight Halloween weekend event

LOS ANGELES - (October 26, 2011) - It's the only half-marathon run entirely within the City of Los Angeles, the second Dodge Rock 'n' Roll Los Angeles Half Marathon benefiting the ASPCA will take over the streets of downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, October 30. Amidst the celebrity entrants and the glitz and glamour of the red carpet finish line, defending champions Jacques Sallberg (MUIR HS, PASADENA 1992; GLENDALE CC 1995; CSULA 1998) and Linda Somers Smith will return to defend their Los Angeles titles against a formidable field of contenders.

Sallberg, 36, is a 1998 graduate of the California State University of Los Angeles and currently lives in Pasadena, California. He has been ranked as high as 4th in the 3000m Steeplechase by Track & Field News and won the inaugural Dodge Rock 'n' Roll Los Angeles in 1 hour, 6 minutes, 27 seconds. Sallberg will be challenged by Hollywood, California's Christian Hesch, a sub-4:00 miler who set his half-marathon PR of 1:04:32 by finishing 3rd at the recent Dodge Rock 'n' Roll Seattle Half Marathon.

The other top contenders in the men's field include U.S. 50K record holder Josh Cox and 2011 NACAC Cross Country champion Robert Cheseret, the younger brother of Bernard Lagat, who is making his half-marathon debut coming into Sunday's race in top shape, having run a PRs over 5K and 15K earlier this year.

"We're 11 weeks out from the big day in Houston and the Dodge Rock 'n' Roll Los Angeles will be a great fitness barometer as we head into the pivotal portion of our Olympic Marathon Trials preparation," said Cox, who owns a half-marathon PR of 1:04:00. "The course is new so times are tough to predict, but the field is top notch so I'm going to get out there and compete - which is always the best, and most fun, way to race. This is my first time racing Rock 'n' Roll in LA, so I'm looking forward to a great event."

The top-3 finishers from the 2010 event on the women's side are returning, headlined by defending champ and Masters marvel Somers Smith of Arroyo Grande, California, as well as runner-up Cheryl Smith of Laguna Beach and third place finisher Joey Bonfiglio of Carlsbad.

A 1996 Olympian after running her career best 2:30:06 for second place at the 1996 Olympic Trials, Somers Smith, 50, has set U.S. 45-49 age group records for ten miles (a victory in 57:09), 10K (a victory in 33:39) and the half-marathon (a 1:13:32 for second place behind 2008 Olympian Blake Russell at Rock 'n' Roll San Jose in 2010).

Foremost among her competition to defend her title is 2004 Olympic Marathon bronze medalist and U.S. record holder Deena Kastor, who attend high school in nearby Agoura Hills, California. Los Angeles will mark just the third race for Kastor since giving birth to her first child, Piper Bloom, this past February. The reigning Olympic Marathon Trials champion, Kastor is on a quest to make her fourth Olympic Team this coming January in Houston.

The 2011 event will feature a new route that will begin and end at L.A. LIVE. Keeping with the rock 'n' roll theme, Los Angeles runners and spectators alike will be treated to a finish line concert at L.A. LIVE by rock legend and reality star Bret Michaels.

The race begins at 7:30am on Figueroa St. and travels south down to the famous 1932 and 1984 Olympic site, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. From there runners can enjoy the famous Science Center at Exposition Park and then make their way past the iconic Shrine Auditorium, and toward City Hall, California's tallest building - the U.S. Bank Tower - and Pershing Square.

Participants will run through the diverse neighborhoods of downtown Los Angeles including Little Tokyo and the Toy District, before winding their way back across the renowned 6th Street Bridge, catching an iconic view of the downtown skyline with the infamous Hollywood sign visible in the distance. The final miles intertwine through the high-rise corridors of downtown Los Angeles ending with a spectacular red carpet finish adjacent to the Staples Center at L.A. LIVE.

Race weekend kicks off with a two-day Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29 at the L.A. Convention Center. The free expo is open to the public and features more than 100 fitness retailers, exhibits, free samples and interactive clinics.

Among the 10,000 runners and walkers expected to participate in Los Angeles' second musical mash-up will be members of Team ASPCA, who will help the ASPCA provide life-saving programs and services to millions of animals in need nationwide. The ASPCA is the first humane organization established in the Americas and serves as the nation's leading voice for animal welfare.

"The ASPCA is honored to be the benefiting charity for this event, in what we hope will be a long-standing relationship with the community of Los Angeles and the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series," said Kymberlee Setterberg, director of the Team ASPCA. "Through this endurance program, we hope to offer animal advocates a new way to engage in team activities with peers who are passionate about helping the ASPCA provide life-saving programs and services to millions of animals nationwide."
