Stanford Completes Big Weekend In Seattle

The Cardinal distance runners continue their big weekend with more top times.




JT Sullivan broke eight minutes in the 3K for the first time.

Seattle, Wash. - The Cardinal continued with the second day of the Flotrack Husky Classic at Dempsey Indoor Stadium on the campus of the University of Washington. The Cardinal had some more outstanding efforts in the distances as well as some good results from the throwers.

Andrew Berberick led the Cardinal, just missing running under four minutes in the mile with a time of 4:00.78. Berberick placed ninth overall in a field that included some world-class runners. Tyler Stutzman and Michael Atchoo also fared well, running career-best times of 4:05.65 and 4:07.61.

The Cardinal showed off its depth in the mile with a number of runners posting fast marks. Dylan Ferris (4:07.89), Adam Thorne (4:11.79), Tyler Valdes (4:12.97) and Kenny Krotzer (4:13.16) also competed.

Stanford also had some top marks in the 3,000 meters as JT Sullivan broke eight minutes for the first time. The Cardinal senior ran 7:59.71, while teammate Brendan Gregg also ran well, crossing the line in 8:12.78.

In the throws, Jeremy Hines continued his impressive freshman season by placing second in the shot put with a toss of 57-0 ½. The mark was a career best that moved Hines to sixth on the all-time Stanford list. He was one spot ahead of teammate Geoffrey Tabor who tossed 56-1. Quinn Dawson also competed, throwing 48-10 ¾. In the weight throw it was Carter Wells who had the top effort, throwing 60-6 ¾. Dawson and Hines also doubled in the event, tossing 58-7 ¼ and 48-3 ½, respectively.

Justine Fedronic led the Cardinal women, running a career-best time of 2:07.29 in the 800. The time was the fourth fastest all-time for the 800 meters indoors. Sarah McCurdy also competed, running 2:14.92.

In the mile, Madeline Duhon led the Cardinal with a time of 4:46.97 to finish 16th overall. The time was a career best for Duhon. Kristin Reese also ran a personal best with a time of 4:49.49. Also competing was Victoria Pennings with a time of 4:51.97.

Finally, Jessica Tonn ran a season best in the 3,000 meters, crossing the line in 9:20.10 to finish eighth in the top section of the event.

In the throws, Alyssa Wisdom continued her quick transition from sprinting, winning the shot put competition with a throw of 50-4 ½. The mark puts Wisdom fifth in Stanford indoor history in the event. She also doubled in the weigh throw with a heave of 36-4.

The Cardinal will now have a week off as it prepares for the MPSF Championships in two weeks. The conference meet will be back at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle on Feb. 25 and 26.
