Men's Track and Field signee for 2011-12 posts mark of 77-2.75 for second-best high school throw ever (indoor or outdoor). Feb. 19, 2011
POCATELLO, Id. - Ryan Crouser, a 2011-12 signee for the Men's Track and Field team, shattered the national high school indoor shot put record on Saturday with an enormous throw of 77-2.75. Crouser out-threw the previous mark of 74-11, set in 1990 by Brent Noon, by over two feet.
The Gresham, Oregon, native twice broke the record in his six-throw series, first recording a mark of 75-3.5 on his second attempt. He followed that up with his record-breaking throw on his fifth toss. His mark is the second-best ever, indoor or outdoor, by a high school athlete. Michael Carter owns the overall record with a throw of 81-3.5 set in 1979.
Earlier this season, Crouser set the U.S. prep indoor record by throwing the 16-pound shot 63-11 to break the 27-year-old record.
