Amador Valley High named National Blue Ribbon School
Winners to be recognized at ceremony in November
Amador Valley High School has been
named a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School, one of only 25 schools in the
state to receive the honor.
The U.S. Department of Education announced all 342
winners Thursday. The recognition is based on a school's overall
academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps, officials
said.
Amador Valley is one of two schools in Alameda County -- along with Albany Middle School -- to earn the distinction this year.
"Congratulations to the Amador Valley High staff,
students, and families for being distinguished as a National Blue Ribbon
School," PUSD superintendent David Haglund stated. "This honor is an
impressive accomplishment and a testament to the hard work and
dedication of the entire Amador community."
Added Amador principal Mike Williams, "This
recognition belongs to the amazing staff, students, and families who
contribute to the success and incredible culture of Amador Valley High
School each and every day."
This was not the first time Amador has been named a
Blue Ribbon School. Foothill and Amador received the honor in 2006.
Vintage Hills Elementary also earned the distinction in 2015.
This year's National Blue Ribbon Schools will be
honored at a U.S. Department of Education ceremony in November, when
educators will receive a plaque and flag for their school.
