New Year’s Day 5k run at Solano Community College in Fairfield

New Year’s Day 5k run at Solano Community College in Fairfield

A countywide celebration of the new year, hosted by Sports Authority and Solano Fit, involves a 5k Resolution Run at 11 a.m. Jan. 1.

Start the year off right by keeping those resolutions to be healthier.

This run will take place at the Solano Community College campus in Fairfield.

The Resolution Run has been created in partnership with Healthy Cooking with Kids, a local nonprofit working to establish community and school gardens throughout Solano County for better health.

According to Forbes, only 8 percent of people achieve their New Year’s resolutions. Organizers said they hope to change that in Solano with a fun new tradition that “gives everyone a head start on their goals.”

This event is designed to welcome beginners, pros, and those who did or did not party New Year’s Eve.

“This is a family event to kick the year off right with a commitment to the goals we’ve made,” said Todd Rewick, race coordinator. “If you made a resolution this year come celebrate it with a bunch of excited people ready to motivate each other… what better way to start the year than on the run?”

The event is looking for volunteers as well, e-mail Jessica at help@runtownevents.com if interested in opportunities and volunteer perks.

For additional information and to register for the race online, visit www.SolanoResolutionRun.com, or in person from 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 31 at Sports Authority, Solano Town Center Mall in Fairfield.

Party gear and costumes welcome. Use #MyFirstRunoftheYear on Twitter and Istagram.
