Miles Alan Eisenman
1938-2014
Miles Alan Eisenman of Calistoga passed away at home on Feb. 26, 2014, surrounded by family.
His wife of almost 50 years, Karen Eisenman, was by his side as the winds howled and the lightning and thunder escorted Miles to heaven.
Miles was born in Portland, Ore., July 9, 1938, to the late Walter and Edythe Eisenman. They soon relocated to Monolith, Calif., where he and his siblings lived until moving to Tehachapi, Calif., where he graduated high school.
His budding high school running career culminated in a 1956 State Meet appearance gaining him an audience with legendary Bakersfield Junior College coach John Collins. As a Bakersfield JC Renegade, Miles helped his team earn a National JC Championship defeating perennial champion Mt. Sac and rewriting the Bakersfield distance record books.
Miles went on to run for Coach Ralph Higgins at Oklahoma State University earning All-American status in 1959 in track and cross-country. His running career culminated in an appearance at the 1960 USA Olympic Track and Field Trials at Stanford, Calif.
Miles came back to California, after graduating from OSU with a degree in zoology, to obtain his master of theology degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley.
This is where he met and married his wife, Karen, and began their 50 years together.
They relocated to Calistoga, where he pastored several small churches, established a landscape business, and where Miles and Karen raised their three daughters.
Throughout his life, Miles generously shared his knowledge of the Bible, the outdoors and running.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Eisenman; daughters Rhonda Brown and husband Virgil of American Canyon, Jeanise Eisenman and husband Robert Drew of Windsor, Calif., and Heather Eisenman of Fairbanks, Alaska. He leaves six grandchildren: David Brown, Wyatt Brown, Caleb Brown, Thomas Drew, Samuel Drew and Justine Drew. He is survived by two brothers, Ross Eisenman and wife Sylvia of Arcadia, Calif., and Bruce Eisenman and wife Pam of Hollister, Calif.; and a sister, Avis Williams and husband Ron of Bishop Auckland, England.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who have many fond memories of family trips to the Smith Trout Farm.
A memorial service for Miles was held on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at the Tucker Farm Center, 1201 Tucker Road in Calistoga, at 2 p.m.

Keith Conning, Editor: I just heard of Miles Eisenman's death this week. I met Miles at a cross country meet. He and I had some interesting conversations, because he knew the sport. We both had daughters who were seniors. His daughter Jeanise Eisenman was an outstanding runner for Calistoga High School. She set the Coastal Mountain Conference 3200 meter record of 11:25.14+ in 1987. That record has lasted 27 years so far.
