Running USA 2014 Panel to Examine Diversity in the Sport

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - (January 5, 2014) - At Running USA 2014: The Industry Conference powered by ACTIVE Network, one of the general sessions will be How to Bring More Diversity to the Sport. Slated for Tues day, February 11 from 8:30 - 10:30am, the panel will include Leo Manzano (2012 Olympic 1500m silver medalist, right PhotoRun), Tina Klein (Balanced Running, LLC), George Banker (Army Ten-Miler), Tony Reed (National Black Marathoners Association) and Walter Bland III (consultant). The 11th edition of the sport's premier and largest conference will be held on February 9-11 at the Marriott Marquis & Marina on San Diego's beautiful waterfront.

"As documented and reported by Running USA over the past decade, our sport is booming in participation, but compared to their percent of the general population, minorities are underrepresented in road races," said Creigh Kelley, panel moderator. "With attendees, this esteemed panel will discuss how to bring more African Americans, Latinos and other groups to the sport and the starting line as well as examine the barriers and challenges."

Team USA Announced for Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country

EDINBURGH, Scotland -- Thirty athletes were named to
Team USA for the 25th Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country race on Saturday, Jan. 11.

Team USA veterans Bobby Mack and Chris Derrick highlight the senior men's selections alongside 2013 National Club Cross Country individual champion Joe Gray.

Mack (Raleigh, N.C.) looks to continue his impressive performances at Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country, capturing the title in 2013 and finishing runner-up in 2012. Mack won a thriller for Team USA last year in the annual match against a Great Britain & Northern Ireland Team and Team Europe over a tough 8K course in the Scottish capital's scenic Holyrood Park.

Mack and Derrick (Naperville, Ill.) were members of Team USA at the World Cross Country Championships, aiding Team USA in clinching the silver medal behind Ethiopia and ahead of Kenya, the world's most dominant distance running nation.
