Endurance Live Awards Gala Announced

Marketplace E-News will publish during the week of February 3, in advance of our annual conference. This is a great opportunity for our members to promote their products and/or services. For those members who are exhibiting at conference, you may want to include your booth number in your submission. Deadline for submissions is February 1. Active at Altitude Announces Partnership

Balega socks and Active at Altitude announced a partnership for 2014. Balega will supply socks for every athlete attending an Active at Altitude training camp in Estes Park and other related events throughout the year. Balega have also donated 10 pairs of socks as prizes for part of the ATRA prize draw at the second annual Trail Running Conference that takes place in Estes Park, CO, October 9-11, 2014.



DMSE Sports Launches New Division

DMSE Sports announced the launch of a medical consulting partnership to improve medical and public safety coverage at large-scale athletic events in the U.S. and worldwide. DMSE Medical, to be led by Chris Troyanos, ATC, who has served as Medical Services Coordinator for the B.A.A., for the past 25 years, will provide expertise to help managers of road races, triathlons, charity walks and other mass participatory events evaluate, plan and implement more effective medical programs.



Leslie Jordan Announces Partnership

HITS Endurance announced their recent partnership with Leslie Jordan as an Official Merchandise Partner. The HITS Triathlon Series event in Naples, Florida will be the first 2014 event to feature on-site Leslie Jordan merchandise, apparel and endurance sports accessories on sale for athletes and spectators alike.



Empire State Building Run-Up Announced

New York Road Runners and Empire State Realty Trust, Inc., will host the 37th annual Empire State Building Run-Up on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, challenging participants to race up 1,576 steps and 86 floors of the world's most famous office building.



ZOOMA Announces Sponsorship

The Muscle Milk Light ZOOMA Women's Race Series announced a partnership with Altra Running, which will serve as the Official Running Shoe for all ZOOMA events in 2014.



Lakefront Marathon Registration to Open

The 34th Annual Lakefront Marathon to be held on October 5, 2014, will open registration for this year's event at noon on Monday, January 20, 2014. The event typically fills its 3100 spots within months after registration is open.



Vail Recreation District Announces March Event

The Vail Recreation District will host its third annual Krueger Family Shamrock Shuffle 10k, 5k and kids 1k fun run, in celebration of all things green on St. Patrick's Day weekend at the Vail Nordic Center. The race, which will include a snowshoe and Yaktrax category,will take place on March 15.



Mankato Marathon Opens Registration

The 2014 Mankato Marathon will offer deep discounts to runners who register January 20 to 31, 2014 for the 2014 marathon or half marathon races to be held October 18-19, 2014.



Portland Marathon East Coast Event Director College

The Portland Marathon East Coast Event Director College, hosted by Cooper River Bridge Run, will be held April 2 -3, 2014. Early bird discount ($50 off) through February 1, is offered by sponsor ACTIVE Network: 2014CSCEDC. Space is limited.

Marketers Eye Newer Media And Marketing Options

IEG's 29th annual year-end industry review and forecast shows a contraction in the flow of marketers' dollars into sports, entertainment, cause, cultural and other partnerships. Although sponsorship is still seeing steady growth, corporate interest in other marketing alternatives, particularly digital (including social and mobile) media, has dampened enthusiasm for significantly increasing sponsorship spending. Spending by North American companies is projected to rise just 4.3 percent in 2014. The amount spent is projected to be $20.6 billion. In the year just ended, North American spending grew 4.5 percent, well below the 5.5 percent growth IEG forecast last January.

People in the News


New Balance announced that Mark Coogan will join the Running Sports Marketing Team at the brand's corporate headquarters as a full time associate effective January 15. From his most recent position as Head Women's Cross Country Coach at Dartmouth College, Coogan will bring his unique expertise to the New Balance performance running team and will be involved in all aspects of the brand's growing global running sports marketing strategy.
