LOS ANGELES – Historic Drake Stadium is in the midst of a major upgrade and the new state of the art Mondo surface is making headway this winter.
The project started in November and signs of the blue surface have appeared at the home of UCLA track and field.
The project is expected to be completed by January 17th, 2014. The former surfacing was red Tartan, while the new surfacing will be blue Mondo.
The Mondo product being placed is the latest generation of Mondo. It is the same surfacing used at the 2012 London Olympic Games, and is expected to be one of the only installations of its type in the USA. The current phase also includes expansion of the high jump area, and a reconfiguration of the shot put area.
The indoor season will start at the Northern Arizona Invitational on Friday, January 24 in Flagstaff. The outdoor season is set to begin with a dual meet against Washington State on March 22 at Drake Stadium.
