NCS CROSS COUNTRY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
POST-EVENT MEETING MINUTES
Wednesday, December 11, 2013

Present: Steve Gregg (BCL-East); Albert Caruana (At-large); Eddie Salazar (EBAL); Doyle O’Regan (At-large); Manny Myers (At-large); Bri Niemi (NCS Staff).

Absent: Keith Conning (At-large); Peter Brewer (DVAL); Chuck Woolridge (DFAL); Angela Paradise (DFAL); Jim Tracy (BCL-West); Jason Jacobsen (MCAL); Noel Mattern (EBAL); John Pelster (EBAL).

1. COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Niemi reported that the EBAL had asked for two additional members to be added to the committee – John Pelster (De La Salle) and Noel Mattern (Granada). Niemi would contact both coaches to let them know the role of the committee. In addition, the EBAL would need to decipher who would be the voting rep (each league getting 1 vote on the committee).

2. NCS DIVISIONS
Niemi presented the group with the divisions for 2014. Not all schools had reported their enrollment numbers, but as they did, the document would be updated and approved at the March SAC meeting.

3. LOCATION OF 2014 NCS/LES SCHWAB TIRES CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
Niemi reported that the Hayward school district was looking to get a bond up for vote in summer of ’14 or fall of ‘14 to improve the football stadium on campus, which could affect the cross country course. Looking at next year, there were three potential options: 1) Return to Hayward HS, as is. 2) Return to Hayward HS with an altered course. 3) Not be able to be at Hayward at all, forcing the committee to look at other sites. Two sites were mentioned by the group – Newhall Park and Shadow Cliffs. Niemi would keep the group informed as she heard from Hayward on the status of next year’s site.

4. EVALUATION OF 2013 NCS/LES SCHWAB TIRES CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
a. Record last 8-10 runners of each race to help with the crossover and making sure runners go the correct way.
b. Need opening in the corral for the trainers.
c. D4 girls race was understaffed by the trainers, remind them of the race schedule and importance of available trainers for each race.
d. Have Keith place an importance on reporting the team scores during the races.
e. Niemi to review gate lists, coaches signature page and authorization to coach forms.

The financial summary for the 2013 championship was reviewed. Niemi reported that when all the expenses had been accounted for, the net gain would likely be around $11,500, up almost 2,000 from the two previous years. She noted the income was up from last year, likely due to the good weather.
