Kogo, Chepkirui Win the 41st New Balance Falmouth Road Race
FALMOUTH, Mass. (Aug. 1 1, 2013) - Kenyan runners Micah Kogo and Joyce Chepkirui won the 41st New Balance Falmouth Road Race here with perfect conditions for running on Sunday, Aug. 11.
On a beautiful morning, under blue skies and low humidity, over 11,000 runners gathered in Woods Hole. The whole field sang "Happy Birthday" to race founder Tommy Leonard, who turns 80 this week. There was a special appearance by Jeff Bauman, Boston Marathon bombing victim, who was the official race starter.
The elite men, lead by Ben Bruce of Arizona, went through the first mile in a 4 minutes, 35 seeconds. Bruce would lead the pack until the four-mile mark, when Kogo and True started to close the gap. The men kept a steady pace through the five and six mile marks. It was a nail-biter to the finish, with Kogo defeating Ben True, from Hanover, NH, a late addition to the field, by a mere two seconds.
Kogo finished with a time of 32:10 and True finished with a time of 32:12. Kenyan Emmanuel Mutai came in third place with a time of 32:20 followed by fourth place finisher, American Olympian Abdi Abdirahman. Bruce took fifth place with a time of 32:44 and Shadrack Biwott of Oregon took sixth place with a time of 33:15.

Kampf Defends, Chaffee Surprises at GNC Live Well Liberty Mile
PITTSBURGH - (August 9, 2013) - A near perfect Friday evening in downtown Pittsburgh for the 2nd GNC Live Well Liberty Mile welcomed a superb professional Mile field as well as athletes from across the United States competing in the USA Masters 1 Mile Road Championships. When the dust settled from the Mile thoroughbreds it was Heather Kampf (MN) who defended her title in an event record 4 minutes 32 seconds, while Macklin Chaffee (CO) was a surprise winner, clocking 4:01 in the Men's race and edging race favorite Jordan McNamara. In the Masters races (40 and older), Magdalena Lewy Boulet, 40, CA and Nick Berra, 44, PA, ran away from the fields in 4:50 and 4:28 respectively.
At 7:50pm, the professional women took to the downtown streets where Kampf, 26, was the clear pre-race favorite with her nose for the finish line that has given her the nickname, "Queen of the Road Miles". However, she would be challenged by 2012 Olympian Geena Gall (OR) and 3000m USA Indoor champion Chelsea Reilly. After the pack came through in a relatively slow first half-mile in 2:20, it was off to the races as Kampf, Reilly, Chemtai Rionotukei (KEN) and Nicole Schappert
(NJ) broke away from the pack.

Ryan Hall to Run Rock 'n' Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Ryan Hall, the fastest American marathoner in history, will return to the oceanfront boardwalk of Virginia Beach on Sunday, September 1 for the
2013 Rock 'n' Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon. Hall, who holds the American record in the half-marathon at 59 minutes, 43 seconds, will be making his second appearance at the event. In 2011 he finished fourth, running 1:03:02.
A two-time U.S. Olympian, Hall ran the fastest marathon ever by an American with his 2:04:58 clocking at the 2011 Boston Marathon. The 30-year-old qualified for last year's Olympic marathon in London with a runner-up finish at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Houston. A hamstring injury forced him to drop out of last summer's Olympic Marathon, but Hall is currently healthy and prepping for the ING New York City Marathon in November.
"Having run the 2011 Rock 'n' Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon I know what potential this race holds," said Hall, who will head to Africa following the event to continue his training for New York. "The environment up and down the beach on Labor Day Weekend is electric, the course fast, and the competition good. It will provide the perfect testing ground for my fitness."
