speaking of Cal, was researching the great Forrest Beaty form 1964-1966 at Cal. Made a great transition to the 440 while a Bear, however many dont know that he ran a 47.3 in HS tied Tommie Smith that year with that time, only ran the race a couple of times. His 9.4 and 20.2 in HS are remarkable. Backed that up with numerous 9.5's and a 20.4, 20.6(3)20.8 and 20.9. He had 2 others in his league run 9.5 and 20.5, Turner and Sapp. Anyone thinking Beaty's times werent accurate enough, then check out the other guys. Lots of sprinters were running hot times in SoCal back then and a few in NorCal also. Funny, all these guys went on to successful college careers also running top times, so the timing back then was as accurate as possible and was consistant across the board, if they ran 9.5 in HS and then ran 9.5 or better in college, thus they can run 9.5. Jerry Bright from ASU and Castlemont ran 20.2 in the 1968 Olympic trials making the alternate, ran a 20.5 also at ASU.

average golden west for today's standards. they really need to get back to the old format. Invites only, invite 12 and run 2 heats for the sprints and hurdles.
anyone finishing in the top 3 cif meet an automatic, get some texas speed in there also. i understand traveling expense nowdays, but something has to be done to save the intergity of this meet. all of this medicore entrents and formats isn't cutting it. also, get some invites for relay teams , short relays and distance also.
