First Regular-Season Women's The Bowerman Watch List Announced
February 7, 2013
NEW ORLEANS – While yesterday’s The Bowerman Watch List for the men did not feature any new names, the first regular-season women’s list released by the Bowerman Watch List Committee Thursday features a number of newcomers.
After not being included in the preseason Watch List, Clemson hurdler Brianna Rollins quickly showed she not only belongs on the list, but may be at the top of it with her collegiate-record 7.78 season-opener in the 60 hurdles.
The Watch Listers combine for eight collegiate-leading marks, with Dartmouth’s Abbey D’Agostino leading the way in two events. D’Agostino is the first student-athlete from the Ivy League to appear on the Watch List.
D’Agostino, Rollins, Arkansas’ Makeba Alcide and Kansas’ Andrea Geubelle each appear on the Watch List for the first time in their careers.
Reigning Bowerman winner Kimberlyn Duncan of LSU makes her 14th Watch List appearance and Arizona’s Brigetta Barrett her 12th – third- and fourth-most all-time, respectively.
With conference championships on tap prior to the next iteration of the Watch List, more strong performances from the current Watch Listers, honorable mention selections and student-athletes at large are surely in store.
