Inaugural Women's Running San Diego Half Marathon a Success

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - (February 24, 2013) - Thousands of women gathered today in America's Finest City for the Women's Running San Diego Half Marathon. On what can only be described as a picture perfect San Diego morning, the 13.1-mile race featured beautiful waterfront vistas along Shelter Island and Harbor Island as the runners made their way to the finish at NTC Promenade in Point Loma.

Beth Walsh, a professional triathlete and school psychologist from Encinitas, won the inaugural race in 1 hour, 21 minutes, 25 seconds, while her friend and founder of Running Skirts, Cindy Lynch, placed second in 1:26:33. Both Walsh and Lynch, who are training for Ironman Cabo San Lucas and the Boston Marathon respectively, tacked on an additional 4-mile training run immediately following their win. Third place winner Jenny Selan ran the scenic 13.1-mile course in 1:28:43.

NASCAR Drivers Join Runners at Daytona Beach Half-Marathon

DAYTONA BEACH - A brisk morning for Daytona Beach in February provided great running conditions for the nearly 1,400 runners that registered for the Daytona Beach Half Marathon on Sunday, Feb. 17. Several NASCAR greats were in the field, including five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, two-time Daytona 500 champion Michael Waltrip, Kasey Kahne (right, crosing the finish line) and Aric Almirola.

"That was an awesome race," said Jimmie Johnson just minutes after finishing the half-marathon in a time of 1 hour, 29 minutes, 48 seconds. "I met my goal, so I'm really excited about that. The course was really cool and there were a lot of people along the way cheering, the DJ at the bridge pumping music out, and people were even running in 48 gear."

The men's winner was Joshua Guerrero, from Daytona Beach with a time of 1:16:00. The women's winner was Katie Hoover from Ormond Beach with a time of 1:26:18. Also in the field was Daytona Beach native Eddie Roseboom, who completed a goal of running 50 half-marathons before he turned 50 at the race.

2013 GO! St. Louis Half Marathon Elite Field Revealed

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - GO! St. Louis has announced the elite athlete field for the
GO! St. Louis Half Marathon
presented by PNC Bank, set for Sunday, April 7. This year's race features a top prize of $10,000, the fourth-largest such award among half marathons in the United States. Vying for that prize will be a top-notch field of professional athletes including 1:10 half marathoner Maegan Krifchin, who leads the women's entries and 1:03 half marathoner Matt Llano, who headlines the men's field.

Joining Llano in the men's race will be his Team USA Arizona teammate Danny Mercado as well as past GO! St. Louis champions Daniel Kirwa (2012) and Josphat Boit (2011) from Kenya and Mexico's Mario Macias. Macias returns to St. Louis after winning this race in 2010, when he posted a 1:05:09. Also expected to challenge for the title will be American
Craig Curley, fresh off an 18th-place finish at the USA Cross Country Championships held in St. Louis earlier this month.

Outside Interactive Partners with NYCRUNS

BOSTON - Outside Interactive, a Boston-based developer of forward motion video software technology for treadmill runners, announced it will be partnering with NYCRUNS, a premier event management company based in New York City, to film select road races offered by NYCRUNS for entrants to run their courses virtually on their own treadmill. High definition videos are shot from a runner's point of view and allow the runner to interactively view different virtual running routes as if they were on the course itself.

"We're very excited to be partnering with NYCRUNS," stated Gary McNamee, president and founder of Outside Interactive. "We aim to capture all the electricity and excitement of select NYCRUNS courses on race day so runners can be engaged and entertained while virtually experiencing the race course on their treadmill during inclement weather, travelling or unable to train on the actual course. From the competitive athlete who wants an edge to a new runner competing in their first 5K, we hope our Virtual Runner interactive race course videos will also aid in keeping a healthier lifestyle."

Running USA 2013's Big
Night: Hall of Champions
Dinner & Auction

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - (February 20, 2013) - One of the Running USA 2013 conference highlights for attendees will be the Monday, February 25 evening Hall of Champions Dinner & Auction presented by Competitor Group at the Hyatt Regency Savannah, Georgia.

The banquet will present the induction of the tenth class of Running USA's Hall of Champions that recognizes individuals who have made important and noteworthy contributions to the sport of running. Last year's honoree was running legend and 1984 Olympic Marathon champion Joan Benoit Samuelson.

In addition, at the 10th Industry Conference dinner, Running USA will announce the 4th Allan Steinfeld Development Award winner. The annual $25,000 grant from the live and silent auction proceeds goes to a top U.S. training group. Established U.S. distance training centers were invited to apply for the 2013 grant, and from four finalists (American Distance Project, New Jersey-New York Track Club, Team USA Minnesota or ZAP Fitness), Running USA will announce and fete the winning team.

"Our Hall of Champions Dinner & Auction is certainly one of the highlights of our annual conference. The energy in the room with the induction ceremony, the Allan Steinfeld Development Award presentation and live auction is electric and inspiring," said Susan Weeks, Running USA CEO.

At Running USA 2010, the inaugural development award was announced and named after Allan Steinfeld, a long-time leader in the sport, who jump-started the U.S. distance running resurgence when as head of the New York Road Runners he allocated $20,000 seed money ($1 per U.S. entry at the 2000 New York City Marathon) for the development program Team USA Distance Running launched in November 2000 that produced top training groups such as Team Running USA (two Olympic medals in 2004 and major marathon wins) and inspired others to be established.
