As a Sophomore (2011-12)
Shearer ran in the one-mile race and the 3K at the Indoor Heptagonal Championships, taking 19th and 16th in the preliminaries, respectively, to start her outdoor season. Her big breakout race, though, came at the Penn Relays. Running in the 3K, Shearer took second place and broke her personal record by 27 seconds (9:25.95). In the process, she broke the 21-year-old school record by three seconds. At the Outdoor Heptagonal Championships, Shearer took third place in the 1500, earning six points for the Big Red. She followed that with a fourth-place effort in the 3K to score a total of 10 points for Cornell. The next week at the Outdoor ECACs, Shearer took ninth place, missing a scoring place by just .03 seconds.

As a Freshman (2010-11)
Emmy got off to an impressive start in her first cross country season, contributing to the Big Red cause in the first half of the season. Injury problems curtailed her track season, but she is looking forward to a healthy sophomore year and will look to make a difference in all three seasons.

Before Cornell
Shearer was a state finalist in the 1600m in California as a senior and was the NCS champion in the same event during the same season. She has run a personal best 4:55.98 in the 1600m and is also a very good cross country runner.

Personal
Emily Joy Shearer is the daughter of Alistair and Jeannette Shearer and has an older sister. She is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
