ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - California swept the top three positions in the men's triple jump and Ray Stewart captured the 60-meter hurdles in his return to the track, as the Golden Bears wrapped up competition at the season-opening Cherry & Silver Invitational Saturday.

Chad Jones, an NCAA qualifier in the triple jump outdoors last spring, outdueled teammate Hammed Suleman for the title. Jones went an indoor PR 50-9.50 on his second attempt, then held on for the win. Suleman was just over two inches behind in 50-7.25, while Jonte Grant rounded out the Cal trio in third place at 48-8.25.

Stewart had a banner 2011 campaign when he set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles (7.77) and won the Pac-10 crown in the 110-meter event, but missed virtually all last year after injuring a knee early in the season. On Saturday, he had the top qualifying time of 8.01 in the morning and came back to take the final in 7.97.

In the men's 60 meters, three Bears established PRs in the preliminary heats - Stewart (6.91), Dash Oliver (6.92) and Chase Wheeler (6.99). Then in the final, Oliver improved to 6.90 during his fifth-place finish.

Alima Kamara, who set a meet record in the 600 meters Friday, set a PR during her runner-up finish in the 400 meters after crossing the line in 55.51.

Sophomore Chioma Amaechi, victor in the women's weight throw Friday night, took third in the shot put with a lifetime-best 49-10.00. She had a previous long of 48-9.00 indoors and 49-7.25 outdoors, both from the 2011 season.

In a late event from Friday, Hammed Suleman established an indoor personal best with a winning effort of 24-5.75. Over the course of the two-day meet, Cal won seven events.

The Bears return to action next weekend for the UW Invitational in Seattle.
