Neely, Foster Win 10th P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon

McPherson, Rothstein-Bruce take half-marathon titles; abundant sunshine and ideal running conditions greet runners from all 50 states; Andy Grammer headlines post race concert

TEMPE, Ariz. - January 20, 2013 - It was a birthday celebration unlike any other as the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon & ½ Marathon celebrated 10 years running in the Valley of the Sun. In the men's marathon, 23-year-old Ryan Neely from Berkeley, California took the lead for the first time at mile 23 to win his second marathon in unorthodox fashion, crossing the finish line in 2 hours, 31 minutes and 7 seconds.

From the gun, Roosevelt Cook of Oak Hills, Calif. set the early pace, running an opening mile of 5:16 and hitting the 5K mark in 16:53, more than 20 seconds ahead of the second place runner. Unbeknownst to Cook, behind him was Moroccan Mohamed Fadil, who owns formidable personal bests for the 10K (28:22) and half-marathon (61:07), and was competing in his first marathon. Fadil caught Cook at 8 miles with the two runners trading the lead and hitting the halfway mark in 1:11:44.

Brooks Renews Support for Hansons-Brooks ODP, New Seattle Team Announced

BOTHELL, Wash. - Brooks Running Company is going the distance in 2013. The leading running brand announced it will deepen its commitment to the sport through continued support of the Hansons-Brooks Original Distance Program (ODP) and the creation of a Seattle-based middle distance team. Brooks, currently in Bothell, Wash., will relocate its headquarters to Seattle in 2014.

Brooks' increased dedication to the Hansons-Brooks ODP will allow the program to continue to develop up-and-coming talent and recruit rising stars. It will also expand its support of internationally successful athletes like Desi Davila, who qualified for the 2012 Olympics after training with the Hansons-Brooks team since 2005. The renewed commitment comes just shy of the program's 10th anniversary.

"Brooks' support is helping to usher in a new era for Hansons-Brooks," said
Kevin Hanson, Hansons-Brooks' coach and co-founder. "When we started this program in 1999, we thought we had an idea of what success looked like. Each year we continue to stretch that goal further and further. We've had two Olympians on the past two marathon teams, but feel that is just the beginning."

Canady, Yates Capture USATF 100K Trail National Championships

BANDERA, Texas - Sage Canaday and Michele Yates demonstrated the versatility of their running talent with wins here in the USATF 100K Trail National Championships, held in conjunction with the Bandera Trail Races 100K event on Sunday, Jan. 13.

Canaday (Rick Kent photo, right), 27, of Boulder, Colo., won his first ultra trail championship, following up on his 2012 national title at the USATF Mountain Running Championships. The 100K course in the rugged Hill Country State Natural Area, southwest of Bandera, suited his mountain running expertise well.

From the start, Canaday took the lead and widened as the day wore on. While most of the field was hampered by the damp day, with mud-slick trails, Canady raced to a new course record, breaking the previous best of 8 hours, 16 minutes, 48 seconds set in by Dave Mackey in 2011.
