Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon Elite Field Announced

CARLSBAD, Calif. - Three returning race champions and an international contingent of elite athletes including a South Sudanese 2012 Olympian will lead a sold-out field of 10,000 participants in the 22nd Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon on Sunday, Jan. 27, announced In Motion, Inc., the event organizer.

Ethiopia's Demesse Tefera, the Carlsbad Marathon's 2011 champion, will toe the start line with countryman Dejene Nigussie and Jonathan Ndambuki of Kenya. Nigussie won the 2012 Quad Cities Marathon (2:33:22) while Ndambuki racked up a victory at last month's Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon (2:32:24). Seeded Americans include masters standout Thomas Lentz, 45, of Cincinnati, Ohio and Craig McMahon, 23, of Brighton, Mass., who will be making his marathon debut.

On the women's side, Mary Akor of Hawthorne, Calif., the 2011 marathon champion and podium finisher in the 2012 Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Half Marathon, will return to the familiar, seaside course. A prolific racer, Akor won the Trinidad and Tobago International Marathon on Jan. 21, in a time of 2:49:14, just one of her many marathon and half-marathon victories in recent years.

Akor will be joined by fellow 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier, Devon Yanko (formally Devon Crosby-Helms) of San Anselmo, Calif., who achieved her marathon PR at the 2012 Olympic Trials (2:38:55).

Olympian Deena Kastor to Run 2013 LA Marathon

LOS ANGELES - One of the biggest names in running will be at the start line of the 2013 LA Marathon. Three-time Olympian Deena Kastor, who holds the American record in the marathon, will compete in her first LA Marathon on Sunday, March 17.

Kastor (right, image courtesy ASICS America) is a 25-time USA champion in track, road and cross country races. She is most noted for winning the 2005 Chicago Marathon and the 2006 Flora London Marathon, where she became the fastest female marathoner ever with a time of 2:19:36. Kastor also won the bronze medal in the 2004 Olympic women's marathon, becoming only the second American to win a medal in the event in Olympic history.

"I was on the LA Marathon course last year as part of the broadcast team, and I was so impressed with the course and the energy of the event that I knew I needed to compete in 2013," said Kastor, an ASICS athlete. "I am really looking forward to running the Stadium to the Sea route alongside thousands of other runners, including some of the world's greatest marathoners."

Twin Cities In Motion and Partners Raise $759,462 in Charitable Contributions in 2012

ST. PAUL, Minn.- Twin Cities In Motion (TCM), together with its Community Partners and Charity Program teams, raised a grand total of $759,462 for charity in 2012, exceeding its 2011 fundraising total by nearly a quarter of a million dollars. The funds were raised via race entry fundraisers, individual donations and contributions to the Friends of TCM program which supports youth fitness.

"The charitable contributions we and our participants and partners make for the community are something we're especially proud of at Twin Cities In Motion," TCM Executive Director Virginia Brophy Achman said. "Increasing the amount of money our events contribute to the community by more than 30% last year only inspires our organization and our partners to strive for more."

The majority of money raised came through the efforts of teams participating in TCM's Charity Program. Twenty charity teams used the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon for their fundraising efforts, using race entries and pledges to gather more than $586,000 for their respective causes.

Neely, Foster Win 10th P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon

McPherson, Rothstein-Bruce take half-marathon titles; abundant sunshine and ideal running conditions greet runners from all 50 states; Andy Grammer headlines post race concert

TEMPE, Ariz. - January 20, 2013 - It was a birthday celebration unlike any other as the
P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon & ½ Marathon celebrated 10 years running in the Valley of the Sun. In the men's marathon, 23-year-old
Ryan Neely from Berkeley, California took the lead for the first time at mile 23 to win his second marathon in unorthodox fashion, crossing the finish line in 2 hours, 31 minutes and 7 seconds.

From the gun, Roosevelt Cook
of Oak Hills, Calif. set the early pace, running an opening mile of 5:16 and hitting the 5K mark in 16:53, more than 20 seconds ahead of the second place runner. Unbeknownst to Cook, behind him was Moroccan Mohamed Fadil, who owns formidable personal bests for the 10K (28:22) and half-marathon (61:07), and was competing in his first marathon. Fadil caught Cook at 8 miles with the two runners trading the lead and hitting the halfway mark in 1:11:44.
