Daegu: Usain Bolt’s path to a third straight global sprint double at the world championships here in Daegu was dramatically eased on Thursday as Asafa Powell, his Jamaican compatriot and main rival, was forced to pull out of the 100 metres.

Veronica Campbell-Brown (Jamaica) defeated Carmelita Jeter (Nike; Cal State Dominguez Hills 2003; Bishop Montgomery HS, Torrance 1998) in Shanghai, China on May 5, 2011.

I saw Florence Griffith-Joyner set the women's 100 meter world record in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 16, 1988. I was 47 years old at the time.

I saw Jeter win the USATF in Eugene on June 24, 2011.

I also saw Ngonidzashe Makusha (Zimbabwe) win the NCAA in Des Moines on June 10, 2011.
