Longtime Nebraska Wesleyan coach is the first from NCAA’s Division III to head the board

NEW ORLEANS – Dr. Ted Bulling, the head coach of track & field and cross country at Nebraska Wesleyan University, took over the role of President of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Board of Directors on Friday. Bulling, selected by the USTFCCCA membership in December as their new president, is the first from NCAA’s Division III to head the organization’s board. Bulling replaced Curtis Frye of South Carolina who just completed his two-year run as board leader.
Bulling, a six-time national coach of the year, will enter his 27th season with Nebraska Wesleyan this fall.
“To be selected by my peers as the next President of the USTFCCCA is a humbling experience,” said Bulling. “I look forward to the challenges and opportunities of providing leadership for the 7,700 coaches involved in the association. It is exciting to work with track & field and cross country coaches who are passionate about our sport and even though we already have the greatest sport in the world, want to make it even better.”
As USTFCCCA President, Bulling is tasked to lead the organization’s Board of Directors. The Board has representatives from each program membership division within the USTFCCCA (NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, and NCAA Division III), as well as an At-Large member to represent the organization’s non-program membership division members.
Over the years, Bulling’s teams have accounted for 62 conference team titles, including ten of the last 12 GPAC men’s cross country crowns and nine of the last 11 women’s cross country championships. In addition, Nebraska Wesleyan’s men’s cross country team has made appearances in the last 14 NCAA Championships while the NWU women have reached the national meet in 11 of the last 15 seasons.
A 1980 Nebraska Wesleyan graduate with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, Bulling enjoyed an outstanding athletic career. He held the school’s discus record for ten years and was also a three-year starter on the football team’s defensive line.
Bulling received his doctoral degree in educational psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1993. In addition to his coaching duties at NWU, Bulling is also an adjunct professor of education. Bulling and his wife, Denise, have two children, Emily and Elliott.
In addition to the installation of Bulling to the board, four new officers were seated today as presidents of their respective sport and divisions:

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is a non-profit professional organization representing cross country and track & field coaches of all levels. The organization represents over 8,000 coaching members encompassing 94% of all NCAA track & field programs (DI, DII, and DIII) and includes members representing the NAIA as well as a number of state high school coaches associations. The USTFCCCA serves as an advocate for cross country and track & field coaches, providing a leadership structure to assist the needs of a diverse membership, serving as a lobbyist for coaches' interests, and working as a liaison between the various stakeholders in the sports of cross country and track & field.
