Barron & Stevenson lead Team USA to strong finish at World Cup
American Junior record holder Trevor Barron and 2010 Penn Relays champion Tyler Stevenson led the Team USA Junior men's squad to an overall sixth-place finish over the weekend at the 2010 IAAF World Cup of Race Walking in Chihuahua, Mexico.
High altitudes and hot conditions did not prevent Barron from finishing in an impressive ninth place (45 minutes 17 seconds) in the individual competition. Stevenson placed 18th in 47:54 as the Americans totaled 27 points in the team competition. Also competing for Team USA was Alex Chavez, who finished 30th in 52.41. Russia won the team competition with 7 points followed by China - 7 points, Colombia - 9, Mexico - 17 and Italy with 24 points.
In other action, Jonathan Matthews posted a seasonal best as the top American in the men's 50 km race finishing in 47th place in 4 hours 45 minutes 52 seconds, with Ray Sharp finishing 50th in 4:56:52. In men's 20 km action, Patrick Stroupe finished 61st in a seasonal best 1:37:24. In women's 20 km action, Solomiya Login finished 47th in a seasonal best time of 1:47:43.

Records set at USA Masters 15 km Race Walk Championships
Three American records were set Sunday at the 2010 USA Masters 15 km Race Walk Championships at Fairmount Park in Riverside, Calif., where the 47 walkers who answered the gun at the starting line competed under overcast skies with temperatures in the low 60s.
Louise Walters, 70, of Nipomo, Calif., led the record charge finishing her W70 race in 1 hour 39 minutes 11 seconds. Her performance took nearly four minutes off the old (70-74) record of 1:42:57 set by Bev McCall on the same course in 2006.
The men's 60-64 record of 1:19:40 set in 2005 by Leon Jasionowski in Clermont, Fla., fell to Chris Schmid of Wooster, Ohio and World Class Race Walking, who crossed the finish line in 1:19:36. Additionally, Jack Starr of Wallingford, Pa., and the Philadelphia Masters took 56 seconds off his own M80 American masters record by finishing in 1:46:47. His previous record lasted exactly six months.
Two-time Olympian Tim Seaman of Chula Vista, Calif., won the overall race in 1:06:36, and established a masters age best in the process. The women's overall winner was decided at the finish line as Vicki Pritchard, 51, of Cave Creek, Ariz., and World Class Race Walking edged Dawn Tenney, 52, of Scottsdale Ariz., although both were officially timed in 1:34:56.
