Dix named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Walter Dix has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the men's 100 and 200 meters Saturday at the Seminole Twilight at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla.


The 2008 Olympic 100 and 200m bronze medalist, Dix first won the men's 100m in a stadium record 9.98 seconds. He then came back to win the men's 200m in 19.89. It is the fastest time by an American over 200m so far this year.



Elsewhere, reigning Olympic and World Outdoor bronze medalist David Oliver won the men's 110m hurdles in a world-leading 13.12 at the Ponce Grand Prix in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Oliver now owns the four fastest times in the world so far this year.



Now in its ninth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
