Diamond League begins tomorrow

IAAF Diamond League ambassador Allyson Felix leads a star-studded field that includes Angelo Taylor, Kerron Clement, Dawn Harper and Christian Cantwell Friday at the first event of the IAAF Diamond League, the Qatar Athletic Super Grand Prix 2010, in Doha, Qatar.

The Qatar Athletic Super Grand Prix 2010 will be broadcast on www.universalsports.com beginning at 12:00 p.m. ET.

The IAAF Diamond League encompasses 32 individual event disciplines, with a points scoring 'Diamond Race' which runs throughout the 14 meeting series. Winners of each Diamond Race will get a Diamond Trophy and a cash prize. For complete rules and regulations, CLICK HERE.

Three-time world outdoor 200m champion Allyson Felix is changing it up this year, mixing in more 400s to her usual array of half-lap sprints. Opening her outdoor season with a 400 in Doha is the norm for Felix, she has won here three years running and looks to make it four. She will face stiff competition from reigning World Indoor champion Debbie Dunn and 2008 Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu (GBR).

Two-time World Indoor champion Lolo Jones returns to Doha to run the women's 100m hurdles two months after becoming the first woman ever to win back-to-back 60m hurdles titles. She will face 2008 Olympic gold medalist Dawn Harper, bronze medalist Priscilla Lopes-Schliep (CAN) and reigning USA Indoor champion Ginnie Crawford.

In the men's 400m hurdles, two-time Olympic gold medalist Angelo Taylor will be challenged by two-time World Outdoor champion Kerron Clement and two-time World Outdoor medalist Bershawn Jackson. Each has run the event just once this season, with Taylor the fastest (48.16). Jackson clocked a 48.36 in his debut, while Clement ran 48.55, good enough for the victory in Kingston.

The 2009 World Outdoor champion, Christian Cantwell leads the field in the men's shot put. In March, Cantwell became the first man ever to win three world indoor titles in the men's shot put with his win here in Doha. Also in the field is 2007 World Outdoor champion Reese Hoffa and 2009 USA Indoor champion Dan Taylor.

In other field event action, 2008 Olympic gold medalist Stephanie Brown Trafton and four-time USA Outdoor champion Aretha Hill Thurmond will compete against reigning World Outdoor champion Dani Samuels (AUS) in the women's discus throw. 2010 World Indoor bronze medalist Chaunte Howard enters a women's high jump field that includes reigning World Indoor and Outdoor champion Blanka Vlasic (CRO), and 2010 USA Indoor champion Lacy Janson will compete in the women's pole vault.
