SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco West Coast Last Chance Meet is slated for a beautiful weekend in the Bay, with select field events contested Friday at Cal State Stanislaus and races on the track and the remainder of the field events slated for Saturday at San Francisco State's Cox Stadium.

The Dons will host a bevy of competitors locally and regionally, across multiple divisions. Australian Olympian and five-time national champion Steve Solomom will join the field in the 400 meters, slated for Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

USF's athletes to watch include the trio of Ryan Driscoll, Edward Shepherd and Mohamed Aziz toeing the line in the 1,500 meters, Dons' record-holder Hugh Nicklason taking off in the 800 and All-American Alex Short racing at the 5,000 meter distance.

For the women, USF's Asaundra Dalton will compete in the 200, Elena Burkard and Emma Stahr are in the 800 meter field, and Magdalena Dias will round the track in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Fresh off running the fastest 5,000 meter time in the country, Charlotte Taylor joins the combine 10,000 meters, and Tatjana Schulte makes her debut at the long distance.

"This meet provides a wonderful opportunity for us to chase last chance NCAA qualifying marks in our own backyard," noted USF head coach Helen Lehman-Winters. "We have some who are continuing to train through this weekend, but we also have a number of athletes in multiple events who are fit, capable and hungry, so we'll see how it all shakes out."

Currently, USF has 11 times within the 48-athlete threshold for qualifying to advance to the NCAA West Region Championships, with others hovering on the bubble. This weekend marks the final opportunity for athletes to improve their qualifying marks before the regionals take place May 25-27 in Austin, Texas.
