Maynard to Step Down as Director of Track & Field

Mike Maynard coached at UCLA for eight years, including five as Director of Track & Field and Cross Country.
UCLA Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Mike Maynard announced today that he is stepping down at the conclusion of the 2017 season after coaching eight years overall at UCLA.
"I'm proud of my tenure and accomplishments at UCLA and thankful for the opportunity to have become a Bruin," Maynard said. "I have confidence in my team and look forward to leading them through the conclusion of the season."
During his coaching tenure, which included the last five as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, Maynard led the men's team to seven Top 4 placements at the Pac-12 Track & Field Championships and to three Top 20 finishes at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, while the Bruin women earned four Top 5 placements at the Pac-12s and one Top 20 placement at the NCAA Outdoors. Maynard coached 15 Pac-12 champions and one NCAA champion – 2013 discus champion Julian Wruck. Also during his tenure, Maynard guided the Bruin men to six wins and the Bruin women to one victory in the UCLA-USC dual meet.
"I want to thank Mike for his commitment and service to UCLA," said Director of Athletics Dan Guerrero. "He is an outstanding coach and role model and served our student-athletes well during his tenure. We wish him the very best in the future."
UCLA will begin a national search for a new Director of Track & Field and Cross Country immediately.
