SCIAC All-Conference Women's Track and Field
The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the 2017 Women's Track and Field All Conference awards as the leagues nine head coaches voted upon the Track Athlete of the Year, Field Athlete of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Coaching Staff of the Year and the Jennifer Stary Award. The All-SCIAC recipients were based on performances at the SCIAC Championships. 
Vaiva Palunas picked up Field Athlete of the Year honors after a dominant performance at the 2017 SCIAC Championships. She swept the throws claiming first in the hammer, discus and shot put.  This performance accounted for 30 individual points for the Athenas. She holds two SCIAC Championship records in the hammer and discus. Currently, she ranks 8th in the shot, 5th in the discus and 5th in the hammer nationally.
Senior Maya Weigel from Pomona-Pitzer was named the Track Athlete of the Year after running a 4:22.83 in the 1500m at the SCIAC Championships to set a championship meet recrod, a SCIAC record, and a school record. That time puts her 10th all-time in Division III history and puts her second nationally this year. During the mult-duals she ran 4:41, 4:38 and 4:36 in the three 1500m races. She also ran 2:11.92 in the 800m, ninth on 2017 national list, and 16:28.94 in the 5000m first on the 2017 national list)
Newcomer of the Year honors went to freshman Kendall Guidetti from Cal Lutheran after setting a school record in the long jump at the SCIAC Championships with 5.75m which was good enough for first place in the event. That mark currently ranks her in the top ten nationally. She also was the leadoff leg for the third place 4x100 relay team. Finally she ran a personal best in the 100m of 12.45 and finished sixth in that event. 
Kaile Sauro was named the Jennifer Stary Character Award recipient as voted upon by her peers. The senior environmental analysis major (3.73 GPA) has the #3 all-time heptathlon mark in Pomona-Pitzer history. The team captain has PRs that include 200m (27.59), 800m (2:21.62), 100H (15.72), 400H (69.80), HJ (5-0.5), LJ (17-3), ShotPut (29-7), Javelin (95-0).
Head Coach Glenn Stewart and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was named the Coaching Staff of the Year after a dominant 2017. The Athenas swept the dual meets and then posted 222 points at the SCIAC Championship besting the next team by 87 points. The Athenas are currently ranked second in the May 2 USTFCCCA poll and look forward to multiple competitors at the Division III National Championships May 25-27 in Geneva, OH.
