Track Inks Five Student-Athletes To NLIs


BERKELEY --- California Director of Track & Field Tony Sandoval has announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent (NLIs) for the early signing period. The quintet of future Golden Bears – Annie Boos, Meredith Corda, Bryanna Oakley, Camryn Rogers and Kathryn Thomas – will continue their academic and athletic careers at Cal beginning in the Fall of 2017.

"We are pleased with the quality of student-athletes that signed NLI?s with our program," Sandoval said of the incoming class. "The entire staff has been relentless in pursing student-athletes that are the very best fit for Cal and I am confident that these ladies embody that."

Below are scholastic highlights from each of the five signees:

Annie Boos (Claremont, Calif. / Claremont HS)
Boasts personal bests of 2:11.64 in the 800 meters and 4:48.95 in the 1600 meters…was a finalist at the 2016 California State Track & Field Championships, finishing seventh in the 1600

Meredith Corda (Danville, Calif. / Monte Vista HS)
Qualified for the 2016 California State Track & Field Championships in the 1600 meters…holds a personal record of 4:49.99 in the 1600…considering Psychology and/or Business as potential majors.

Sandoval on Boos and Corda: "Both ladies are versatile enough to make an impact in cross country next year in addition to track. We consider both Annie and Meredith late bloomers who will thrive at Cal."


Bryanna Oakley (Aurora, Colorado / Grandview HS)
Earned FloTrack's Saucony Flo50 No. 1 XC ranking this season, her first full year as a competitive runner after converting from soccer…won the 13th Nike Cross Nationals in Portland in December, nearly 30 seconds ahead of the second place finisher…set two records at season-opening cross country meets: Liberty Bell Invitational (16:44; course record) and Woodbridge XC Classic Sweepstakes (15:53.6; meet record)…also won the 2016 Colorado 5A XC Championships after placing second in 2015…won the 1600 meters and 3200 meters at the 2016 2016 Colorado 5A Track & Field Championships…considering Sports Medicine and/or Physiology as potential majors

Sandoval on Oakley: "Brie is one of the highest ranked high school cross country recruits to come to Cal since Bethan Knights and Kirsten O'Hara. She will lead the distance runners coming in and complement the core of returners for cross country and track."


Camryn Rogers (Richmond, British Columbia / R. A McMath Secondary School)
Ranked as the No. 1 junior (U20) and youth (U18) hammer & weight thrower in Canada…holds records for junior/youth 4K Hammer (59.74m) and youth 3K Hammer (65.16m…earned Canadian junior titles for hammer & shot put) along with the Canadian youth title for hammer in 2016…youngest member of the Canadian U20 national team that competed at the 2016 World Junior Championships in Poland…2016 British Columbia Youth Female Athlete of the Year.

Sandoval on Rogers: "Camryn was pursued by several elite program across the country. She is an outstanding student with hammer marks that are already NCAA-quality. She competed for Kajaks TC in British Columbia and follows former Cal greats Jennifer Joyce and her coach Garrett Collier."


Kathryn "Kate" Thomas (Mission Viejo, Calif. / Santa Margarita Catholic HS)
Pole Vault specialist with a personal record of 13-0.00…finished third at 2015 California CIF State Championships (12-9.00) and seventh in 2016 (12-7.00) despite battling injury…mother is a graduate of Cal and former student-athlete, competing as a coxswain on the men's crew team…considering Public Health as a potential major with hopes of becoming a nurse.

Sandoval on Thomas: "Kate adds strong quality to our pole vaulter group and we are excited for what she can do when she arrives on campus."
