Pool, Meyer Win 35th Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon

NAPA, Calif. - (March 3, 2013) - Kevin Pool of Folsom, Calif. didn't plan on winning the 35th Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon. He entered the 26.2-mile race through the scenic Napa Valley wine-growing region as a training run in preparation for this coming April's Boston Marathon. On the other hand, San Francisco's Michelle Meyer set a goal of recording a fast time, and possibly a women's win, at Napa. Both Pool and Meyer emerged victorious in close contests and were crowned Road Runners Club of America national marathon champions. The marathon served as Road Runners Club of America's 2013 National Marathon Championship.

Pool, 30, broke the finish line tape at Napa's Vintage High School in 2 hours, 21 minutes, and 58 seconds, the seventh fastest winning men's time in the 35-year history of the event. Meyer's time of 2:43:11 is the fourth fastest ever by a woman on the scenic, gently rolling, point-to-point course. The rural race route from Calistoga to Napa has not changed since the event's inaugural running.

Pool, a veteran of nine previous marathons, notched his victory despite giving the other top men in the field an unintentional 40-second handicap. He was in the port-a-potty when the 7 a.m. starting gun sounded as Cheyne Inman (Vacaville, Calif.) assumed a solo early lead and held it until Pool and Frank Corrigan (Port Costa, Calif.) caught him near the 23 mile point.

Booth Rewrites Her Own Record at Disney's Princess Half Marathon

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Rachel Booth etched her name in the runDisney record books - again - by winning Disney's Princess Half Marathon on Sunday, Feb. 24 for the second straight time, beating her own race record from a year ago.

Perhaps even more significant, Booth (right, photo by Preston Mack) stands alone as the only woman to win four runDisney races - two Princess Half Marathons (2012 and 2013) and two Disneyland Half Marathons (2010 and 2011).

This latest win, a 13.1-mile journey through Epcot and Magic Kingdom on an unseasonably warm February morning at Walt Disney World Resort, was fairly routine. Booth charged to the front of the pack of 26,000 runners at the start and was never seriously threatened, even though she could hear the cheers for second-place finisher Mia Elbon and third-place finisher Megan Jaswell behind her.
