ELVROM SETS SCHOOL RECORD AT HORNET INVITATIONAL

Jesse Elvrom threw 220-09 in the javelin on Saturday.
SACRAMENTO, Calif — Jesse Elvrom set the school record in the men's javelin and was part of eight school top 10 performances by the Hornets on Saturday at the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational.
Elvrom threw 220-09 to break his own school record by seven inches. The junior finished second in the meet, trailing former Hornet Chris Kirkwood who had a toss of 223-04 while competing unattached.
In the discus, James Kinloch and Zach Coniglio finished first and second, respectively, and also moved up the top 10 list. Kinloch now ranks third in school history with a throw of 172-11. Coniglio moved up to sixth in the Hornet record book with a mark of 167-00. Coniglio also won the shot put with a distance of 55-08.25.
Freshman Casey Wheeler finished first in the men's 400-hurdles in 53.40 seconds. The Loomis, Calif., native's time ranks 10th in program history.
Erinn Jones PRed in two events on Saturday. Jones won the shot put with a distance of 50-04.00 which ranks second in school history behind Ify Agwuenu's 52-02.50 which came last season. Jones was part of a Hornet sweep of the top three places in the women's hammer. The junior finished second behind Lila Yoldi with a throw of 177-03 but moved into fourth place in school history. Yoldi won the event at 181-05 while her twin sister, Sarah, placed third at 175-06.
Senior Rachel Mitchell jumped into fifth place at Sacramento State after running 4:26.66 in the 1500 where she finished second overall.
Morgan Pope posted the seventh fastest 200 time by a Hornet after running 24.29.
Ashley Chavez was second in the steeplechase and now ranks seventh at Sacramento State with a time of 11:29.26.
The women's 4x100 relay team of Morgan Pope, Dominque Whittington, Sakya Bolton and Alanna Coker ran 45.98 which is the sixth fastest by the Hornets in program history.
Along with the school top 10 marks, Sacramento State athletes combined to win nine events. For the women, Whittington was victorious in the 400 after running 54.65 which was .86 seconds faster than the rest of the field.
Emily Kersting's win in the javelin joined Lila Yoldi and Erinn Jones in the field events. Kersting threw 143-03 to win the event by 3-feet, 2-inches.
The men had Paul Lyons cruise to the top time in the 110-hurdles. The sophomore ran 14.40 and was .32 seconds ahead of his nearest competition. Fellow sophomore Evan Crayton-Crogan won the 400 in 48.63 and Wheeler captured the 400-hurdles.
Senior Blair Wallingford and sophomore Kyle Fraley finished first and second in the pole vault. Wallingford cleared 15-11.00 while Fraley was successful at 15-05.00.
Coniglio (shot put) and Kinloch (discus) completed the event winners.
Sacramento State will be away from competition next week before traveling to the Cal-Nevada Championships hosted by UC San Diego on March 29-30.
