USTFCCCA Releases DIII Indoor All-America Awards

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the 150 men and 144 women who have earned USTFCCCCA All-America honors for the 2013 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field season based on their performances at the Indoor Track & Field Championships.

All-America honors were given to those who scored any portion of a team point in an event at the NCAA Championships. USTFCCCA membership by a program is required to earn All-America awards.

The UW-La Crosse men claimed their 16th indoor title in program history, which is tops in DIII history, while the UW-Oshkosh women took home their second title in three years.

With 74 team points, UW-La Crosse’s men posted the highest winning score since the program’s 78-point total in 2006. UW-Oshkosh finished runner-up with 40 points, UW-Eau Claire third with 37 and UW-Whitewater fourth with 35.

Monmouth (Ill.)’s James Wilson earned the most All-America awards with three, while 15 others earned two awards apiece. UW-Oshkosh was represented by the largest number of multiple-time All-Americans with four, but it was UW-La Crosse that left with the most total All-America awards with 18.

On the women’s side, UW-Oshkosh scored 56 points to take the title, well ahead of runner-up Illinois College with 32 points. UW-La Crosse finished third with 27 points, defending champ Wartburg fourth with 25 and Monmouth (Ill.) fifth with 24.

A pair of student-athletes earned three All-America certificates: UW-Oshkosh’s Christy Cazzola and Illinois College’s Melissa Norville. Both women were three-time champions. A total of 20 other student-athletes each earned two All-America awards.

A trio of schools each left Naperville, Ill., with three multiple-All-American student-athletes in Emory, St. Thomas (Minn.) and Wheaton (Mass.). Wartburg was the only team to earn double-digit All-America honors with 12.

In terms of conferences, the WIAC dominated the men’s competition with 60 total All-America awards. The CCIW (18) was a distant, and the NESCAC (15) was the only other in double-digits. The conferences were much closer on the women’s side, with the WIAC edging out the NESCAC, 26-23.
